Pelton, known throughout Colorado Colo-rado and Nevada as a successful mining man, now taking his ease In a palatial ' mansion at Pasadena, CaL, was In Reno ' recently on business, says the Reno Ga- j zette. ! Mr. Pelton bought the famous National mine on a bond just before the high grade was discovered in the Stahl Brothers' Broth-ers' lease, for $20,000. The deal was made by his son, George Pelton, who paid $1000 cash and had th deeds put in escrow in a Wlnnemueea bank. Beiore the second sec-ond payment became due the Stahls made their famous strike and all Nevada went wild over the ore. The owners of the property refused tender of the money due on the mine and litigation resulted. The matter finally was compromised. Mr. Peltn was manager of the National Na-tional mine for about four years, finally disposing of his Interest to minoritv stockholders of Chicago. He is credited with a cleanup of about J5.000.O00 from an Investment of $20,000, of which only $1000 of his own money was put up, the balance and many times that amount corning corn-ing from royalties on the leases. He is a large shareholder in the Eastern Star and Gold Circle mines at Gold Circle, and of late has Invested hoavVy in the Cerbat range in Arizona. |
