Show PfflBiTIl BILL 01 TGDAYSGHEDULE Wootton Measure Will Be Considered by Members of the House. MAY REACH A BALLOT Number of Amendments Will Be Offered Before Vote Is Taken. Prohibition will be, tho absorbing sub- 1 ject or the day in the lower house of the slate legislature. Indications were last night that the debate on the bill and on t ie amendments to be presented to the jouac would continue practically all day, i.ud that a vote on the bill would probably prob-ably bo reached late this afternoon. Both li e' 'wets" and the "drys" were hope! ill a-t niiiht of the outcome of today's proceedings pro-ceedings In the house. .'.II day yesu-rdav thero were quiet con-l, con-l, rences of groups of the leading prohibitionists prohi-bitionists In the house planning to be ready for any surprise moves which the "wet's" might make. The prohibitionists 51' the house will hold a caucus belore , the session this forenoon and discuss amendments that may bo offered. Not Entirely. Satisfied. Some of the prohibitionists are not entirely en-tirely satisfied wtih the Wootton bill as it came from the committee in the house and some amendments will probably be offered by the "drys." They also are planning to circumvent some ot the amendments which they expect will be offered bv the anti-prohlhltlomsts Some of the pi ohibitlonbits aro Inclined to favor the proposed amendment that would take the sale of liquor for any purpose whatever entirely out of the hands of the druggists. This amendment is urged bv the retail druggists of the state and several members of the house are inclined to favor it. The amendment which will h offered extending the time for the bill becoming effective to January 1. 1917. also has considerable support. Pome of the prohibitionists pro-hibitionists urge that all amendments be voted down and that the bill be put through lust as It came irom the committee, com-mittee, but apparently this will not be done. However. how extensive the amendments will be cannot too foretold. Attitude of Progressive. Another Issue of the Progressive, the official organ of the Progressive party, like lust week's issue, attacks the wont-ton wont-ton bill. On its title page this appears: "The Wootton bill, an act 10 encourage encour-age the manufacture and sale of alcohol, and providing an easy means of Its distribution dis-tribution by ostensible drug stores by means of easy-going affidavits." Editorially also the progressive attacks the Wootton bill. Apparently the leaders of the progrssive party take the position that the Progressive members of the legislature legis-lature who vote against the Wooiton bill will not only not violate their party pledges, but will be dolnt good scrlce to the stale. |
