Show Garland Is Thriving. The town of Garland is the. commercial center of the Bear River valley. It possesses pos-sesses a population of approximately lf'00 active citizens, all aiming toward the commercial advancement of the town. The beet-sugar industry is of prime importance im-portance in that section, residents stating that fully 5oon acres of beets a re under cultivation this year. In Garland is located lo-cated one Of the la rgest western beet-sugar beet-sugar factories. The town lias a Carnegie library, erected at a cost of $40,000. and a public school building that cost $S0O0. Recently there wa s completed a new tabernacle that is reputed to be one of the finest in northern Utah. T re mom on, one of L'tals prosperous apple-raising sections, was the next stop made by the booster special, and here the train was met by a score of pretty g'rls. who adorned tbe excursionists with apple badges. The proceeds from the sale of the badges goes to a publicity fund which the town has established to advertise adver-tise itself in other sections. The usual ! parade was formed and the march made I to the business center of the town, where Mayor Whit lock welcomed the hurried "hello" and "good -by" and the train was , on its way to Brighani City, the peach city of the state. |
