Show WOMANS interesting speech by mrs vice president Euli ock A session of the comans womans Suf fraga association was held in the priesthood room april 22 1891 mrs joanna patten presiding singing Oh come come away c prayer bv the chaplain mrs anne mitchel singing we are the mothers of mankind minute of previous meeting read and approved as was also the treasurers treasur ers report prapai ten read a piece from a piper that had been published in the salt lake tribune entitled franchise and said the standpoint we are taking is simply justice we want humane laws we should act intelligently and strive to gain our franchise if women bad their franchise there would be less drunkenness in our midst she then read the bylaws by laws of utah county association and said they wera taken from ahe national bylaws by laws and had been changed but very little sha had attended the convention held in salt lake and had learned the executive committee had changed the initiation fees from 25 30 cents as there are so many empens a to meet she said in changing the aice presidents in the different branch associations fh e name of ed should ba referred to the president of the county for her approval and then doted OIL by that branch mrs sarah cluff said comans womans suffrage was a grand theme and thought we should stand side by side without wi thour husbands and make our homes happy and use cur influence with them in making the laws of our country we should learn refinements and teach our child ran to be noble and true and govern our homes with api e woman can elevate herself and become equal avith man and by that means command more respect from him anoble woman is looked up to by all associated with her the association has my beat wishes for its welfare and I 1 am surest will grow and increase if we act as women should we will be noticed may we all accomplish some in our lobar vice president electa bullock was much pleased to meet with us again she had gamed information on her trip to ane at washington andrad seen many grand and i wonderful sights She was only sorry the balance of the ladies in the association were not with her to enjoy them I 1 can assure you ladias I 1 was proud of utah lor there was not one state or territory in the union anat was entitled to as many votes as utah on account of the number bof bembera reported aa she then read wells re pore of some of the leading women at the convention she said she had had some prejudice against susan B anthony but on seeing the lady all was dispelled lifshe found her to be a fine noble motherly woman she gave a description of a recen tion tendered the delegates by mrs president harrison at the W house and described the room and surroundings surround inga of the ex mansion she also read a piece by mrs greenhalgh published in the exponent and said it waa not thought advisable to change the officers every year mrs had been president of the national association for twenty years she hoped we would all be united in comans womans suffrage and try to exer cise our minds a that direction mrs emeline gay and her secretary from lake shore branch were present and he secretary said she was one with us in the cause of suffrage and hyped we would be united and prosper it w as then moved and earned we publish the minutes of our geetings nee tings in the leading papers of and the exponent of bait lake it was also voted we subscribe for the tribune for the association moved we adjourn till the ot may 1891 dismissed benediction by the chaplain BH secretary |
