Show BUSINESS SESSION OF WOMANS NATIONAL COUNCH girls ns stew colon for spring A buffalo fields for comans womans Wo mans jo new Work Girt expressions A washington dispatch says at the final business session of the board of the national council of women there were present five general officers and the representatives of the twelve associations now fally entered in the council lists the board considered unfinished business and passed the following resolutions resolved first that the national council of women of the united states send a memorial to the clergymen ot the methodist episcopal church asking inasmuch as 62 per cent of the already have membership of that denomination by formal ballot expressed a desire that women be admitted to the general conference that the shall in accordance with tho I 1 will of the laity granche gr anthe admission of women to that body second that the council ask that women bo placed oa the sunday school lesson committee in the vanous anil on all committees appointed churches for the revisions of their creeds Third That tha council urge upon the national reform divorce league the eminent fitness and consequent obligation of placing women on its board fourth that the national council of women shall present to the proper authorities a formal request that in departments of its service the government shall pay its employed emp loyes equal wages tor equal work and that both in engaging and promoting its employed emp loyes it shall consider efficiency and not sex and thus set a standard for the country the council also resolved to furnish a bloch or stone of marble suitably inscribed to place in the monument to be erected over the crave of mary the mother of and voted to commend to ill organized bodies of women the objects of the mary washington society resolved that the general officers shall api ap i point a committee of women whose duty it shall be to report within a year suggestions for a business costume for women which shall meet the demands of health comfort and bood taste resolved that the council approves tho movement for ii eventino the slaughter of birds for tha solo purpose of and that it asks american women to imitate the example of the princess of wales who has forbidden tho anso of the plumage of sine ing birds on her toilets letters were received from many distinguished people J G whittier the venerable poet writes as follows I 1 am glad to see tho call for a council of women for the purpose of uniting the various societies ot reform and progress in a grand confederation which will conserve the highest good of the famely and the state andt which will oppose every form of ignorance and injustice it Is a boblo idea and full of promises we anaed the strength which comes from unity of sympathy and purpose 3 need not tell thee my dear friend that I 1 shall watch the proceedings of be council with deep interest and with carist for its sac vess thine truly jonn G will jooa issue an address and the first annual conference of the executive committee vilt fe bield in may steps will bd taken at once for erecting a building at glen echo suit 1 able for intermediate meetings of the council and of the various organizations entering it Tr ienni meetings of tho council will always bo held in washington |
