expressed his great pleasure tf having witnessed and enjoyed the conference thua far and emoke aa follows in addressing the I 1 find myself wholly and fully subject feelings and of the holy spirit aa natural for us to err aa it is for the sparks to efly upwards and while living we discover in others the faults and failures of life more readily perhaps than we do in ourselves we should ourselves be in communion with the holy spirit I 1 that we urge our lives in the onward progress of this work we are most peculiarly situated today and many of our children are under the tuition of those who are not of our party and that the tendency of man kind is to impress the pupil with jhb same characteristic as impresses our selves and lasting impressions are thus made upon the children we should be much interested in the education of our children and so educate them in the most beneficial branches porta inina to actual practical life that they be and harmoniously developed when educating them in the arts and you should not neglect the sol ritual civil government should be one of the leading features of a practical education we have various societies and organizations as primary associations and sabbath schools but owing to a lack on the part of the parents of children these organizations are not as effectual and potent as they be under other circumstances notwithstanding a great and glorious work has been accomplished for all that the world has perfumed pers umed to think that we have adopted a catalogue that will deprive us of that progression and excellence cel lence to which aney desire to attain but god has given us intelligence rarely equaled and we should improve it for the good of tho children of men BO that the spiritual ag well as the physical part oi man be perfectly developed ve loped I 1 exhort the saints to give to the instructions they have re here during this conference and carry the impress of it home and use it fur their own as well as the good cf mankind and their fellow men president Pre wilford woodruff had a few ideas ta give to the saints and said that fifty two years ago I 1 stood filth joseph smith who received a revelation concerning the erection of temple in mayoo illinois but to go there to erect a temple at that time was I 1 worth our lives for tho people had sworn by all the goda that they would sea to it that the revelation should t not be fulfilled I 1 have traveled thousands of milea with the prophet joseph and I 1 know that tie is the greatest prophet that god ever raised up in any ago of tha world I 1 testify also that president young was a propped of god and highly enjoyed the spirit of god I 1 it before high heaven and earth when we arrived hare president bangham young irked tho spot with his staff where now stands the temple of our god and the peg that we drevs to mark tho spot now stands in the centre of the temple to bear witness of the prediction i he made that there should stand tha of our god in which millions of those live arc gone and whose bodies moulder in the dust have been liberated from the prison house and officiated for as peter says in his president brigham yeung is the architect of this great building and of this country and the lord is with us and we must redeem ur dead and fear no man but live our religion and do our duty the greatest joy of my heart is that I 1 hava officiated for my relatives and friende and alien my spirit goes to associate with them behind tho veil I 1 shall feel to glory with them in praising god and if is goodness symour B young bora his ny place them in a position to pr eloin this mighty work gome liae tied their hands and make various iret being prepared to thia great wor god will call these men to ac caunt for what loue with this priesthood and our br ethern president geo Q cannou said that during the conference a peculiar thought had come into his mind and that is that every member of this curch should live in close communion with each other if the lord were not with people the issuance of the manifesto would have materially effected the hearts of thousands in this church avery ono who is eivind in close communion with the charch belides it t be thu best and the i I 1 was much pleased with the instruct eions given yesterday in regard to civil t i lla government and oar duties to god we have always believed that any law that interfered with our marriage relation is in direct opposition to the first articles of the constitution we have been willing to do every thing possible to declare the freedom of religious liberty and human rights we haye suffered until the lord has said enough aal we have nobly vindicated our cause to the satisfaction of god now the question arises what will this magnanimous government declare next so far as the faith of this people is concerned we want this great nation to understand that we mean what we say and that we are earnest in what we do I 1 feel to bow to god and say what have said to men of prominence that I 1 believe the way that law of god came to me I 1 would have been dammed if I 1 bad not obeyed it I 1 wish to say that all the world may fonow that wo wish to obey the law and trust in god for our justin cation in not observing it I 1 want to save this people if they can be saved for this people have suffered as no other people has suffered in country the anguish and misery suffered has been endured quietly and without murmuring I 1 believe that a much brighter time ia dawning upon zion we must live so that we will know the voice of the living god when we are in darkness by asking the lord he will hear and answer our prayers I 1 wish to mention another thing before closing this conference and that is in regard to industry I 1 believe that the time will come when we will bo forced to be self sustaining our young people should not grow up without being the blessing of skilled industry I 1 dont think we should bring our young men up to tho ages of 18 and 19 years of aee without learning them some industrial art we aro importing from abroad all of skilled labor and I 1 do not approve of an education without knowing how to work any young man should know how to work at physical labor before he gets too old or he will naturally shrink from it the choir sang let god aria and his enemies be scattered i conference adjourned for six months benediction
