Show THE PROVO CHAMBER business af pf importance transacted last haht resolution ON waterworks WATER WORKS t street railway discussed report f j hsei bi f it tama special committee on brick supply governors reception the chamber of commerce bield i session last night in lie court room sutherland in th chair on molion of J D jones alie following named gentleman were d to membership geoe L holbrook R khov liben E hamilton george kerra Ker rJ L davis JA ie valley R S kennison C B ande edwards mr holbrook reported fei on woolen mills and asked for further time mr buckley reported that aie had found persons who were competent and understood the manufacture cf cf li meres and fine woolen boods on of J D jones alie committee was given further time the committee on a loan association reported progress the committee on brick elu reported as follows to the president and members of the chamber of commerce gentlemen your committee who were appointed to ascertain the nun ber at bricks that coul cibe produced in provo for the season 1890 report as follows cook liddiard per week TE Fleming J beesley co 03 nelson t halma smith total this number can be furnished if they work to their capacity but at present they do not appear to be able to supply so large an amount per week we have every reason to believe judging from the number of buildings now under contract and proposed to be built that the supply of brick will bo inadequate to the demand wo would therefore suggest that an invitation be extended to brick makers to locate more brick yards to help supply the demand respectfully P STUBBS A A NOON committee GEO MICKELL the report was accepted president sutherland suggested that an invitation be also extended to mechanics and artisans suggestion adopted J D jones of the street railroad company reported that the subscription lists had been opened S RT hurman presented the following resolution on water works WHEREAS brovo trovo city in respect to ib population and commercial importance as arrived at a point in its progress when business and sanitary considerations demands that a system of water works should be designed and established and whereas it is not only improbable but impossible that such an enterprise can be accomplished hy means of the ordinary current revenue derived from business and taxation and WHEREAS the present city council of pro vo city are favorable to the establishment lish ment of water works HI evidenced by the platform upon which they were elected therefore resolved that as men and taxpayers eliose hon acs ics and property are liable to taxation for the payment of necessary bonded debts we atre in favor first of bonding the city for a sufficient amount to establish such water works as may ha necessary for business and residence purpose sand secord if necessary ve v e are in favor of selling so much of ahe surplus real property oro perty of said city as may be necessary for the accomplishment of the aforesaid pur tw es resolved that this resolution be respectfully submitted to alie council of provo city for their consideration on motion of R H dodd the resolution was adopted the chamber next proceeded to con sidor the tendering of a reception to governor thomas and company S R thurman favored the invitation of the governor to provo at some suitable date and suggested that the hearty cooperation of the city council bo requested on the motion of chair appointed the committee on arrangements W II 11 king reed smoot R H dodd J D jones and S R thurman to make the necessary arrangements the meeting was adjourned until friday april |
