Show THE FAIR what the directors are do ui the board of directors of the D D and M society met in salt lake on wednesday evening armstrong and rowe the commit toa appointed to attend to the procurement of a dynamo for the electric lighting of the exposition building on the fair bights submitted a proposition from R M jones esq to put in one no 4 edison dynamo having a capacity of sixteen candle power lamps and connect the same to a system of wiring in multiple for the distribution of twenty one candle power lampi for original installation and renew those which may burn out during the fair and provide a competent dynamo man for the society to provide the generating power coal and other necessary articles the wiring in the building to remain the property of the society mr jones also proffered to leave alie bhole plant for ago additional on motion the proposition to furnish the dynamo and fixtures as specified for four nights of the fair was accepted five propositions were received and opened offering various bums for the exclusive advertising right at the fair tho privilege to consist of the use rf all available spaces noon which to paint advertisements verti subject to the supervision of the fair committee bat there being so wide a diversity in the bids and so much uncertainty tanty as to chich was in reality the best bid fur society on motion it was resolved that bids be from the same avo firms asking them to make their bids only aion the basis of percentage of gross receipts with the understanding that the privilege is to continue only the coming fair and that the will order its card and eign writing from the successful bidder and pay for the same at current rates A proposition from mr B E bnell for privilege of selling a glove and clott iea cleaning article at the lair was read ancl 0 the gentleman was asked to frame the same in writing and present it at the next meeting various bids for refreshment fruit stand ice cream popcorn pop corn and kindred privileges opened and read and after consideration the proposition for all of them from S F ball esq was accepted A proposition from mr waite asking that persons coming to the fair through his advertising efforts 6 admitted free was rejected the following resolution was adopted lies olred anat cattle and sheep brought into the territory six months before the late of the fair opening be allowed to compete for any and all pre offered by the society and that the secretary be instructed to give this resolution the widest possible circulation adjourned until thursday evanine eve nine last the directors again met A letter was read from martin drake of provo offering to pay 30 towards the erection of ten more permanent stalls than already arranged for said extra stalls to be used by tham for the advertising ver of their stock on motion the secretary was instructed to reply that the board will be pleaded to afford them stalls for the exhibition hibi tion of non competing horses but cannot guarantee same to assure them the right to exhibit such stock in stalls i of their own constructing under the supervisors direction and to express regret that the offer of monetary assistance was not made in a way that the board could get at it A letter from arthur stayner esq was read replying to one from the secretary and making suggestions as to the awarding of premiums on sugar beets ho stated that ahe utah sugar corn pany had purchased and expected to arrive today to day a and full set of apparatus necessary for analyzing the juices of sugar bearing plants the use of which the company cheerfully offered to the society he suggested the employment of the services of dr james E talmage as chemist and that his anal nesbe accepted as determining the sac charine properties of the beets and that the terms contained in the premium list at page 45 be the guide for the awarding committee with this how evor that in consequence of the severe drouth of the past season the utmost latitude of discretion be allowed tham on motion the communication was received and a vote of thanks tendered mr stayner for his court emyr the awarding committee on guear beets was then named but in accordance with the socie tys rule will not be published on motion it was decided that four stalls one on each of the two stairways be reserved for the exhibition of woolen goods and similar articles the committee on grounds were authorized zed to sink another well at the northwest corner of the enclosure to secure six carloads car loads 0 shale for walks and also to have necessary hitching posts placed in position it was resolved that persons exhibiting hi fruits and flowers be required to place alie names of each variety of fruit and of flowers on each exhibit adjourned to saturday evening at |
