an exercise son E W robinson occupied a fuw minutes on methods of teaching drabin dr awin 7 he considered it be a regular course or fixed method that ill ways be a successful one to pursur in this branch drawing be taught with the following objects object 1 in view cultivation of imagination oni pinson form size neatness fluency ilu ency originality can learn to express their ideas in pictures savages tell whole stories in rude pictures with technical accuracy mr robinson considered it unwise to allow children to throw away their drawings if they are instructed to preserve their work they will be much more careful iu performing it it is a good idea to encourage larger pupils to take drawing books home as ornaments for the center table such encouragement had been known to produce good results alie speaker taught drawing in connection with other studies and considered it an aid in those studies where teachers had time for a regular drawing class he advised them to open and close it with a drill shading could be best taught by going over old work taking first those drawing which do not need much shading ten questions were then answered bv alie various districts but owing to the fact of the answers not being all handed in in writing we cannot give them here sir G IL bramhall gave a short but interesting lecture on conscience lie defined the subject as eliat faculty which knows speaking the judgment of right and wrong from a standpoint of principle or prejudice mans conscience in extent and quality entirely depends on his education it is well cnown that there are human beings v believe they are doing right w y disfigure their bodies and aw that such a conscience can y be the result of a lack of education we believe it wrong to mar our bodi j and that is the result of our education the great pioneer brigham was of this opinion and we find the truth of this when ever we observe and compare people educated differently ferent ly man is born with a forgetfulness of the past and is therefore void of conscience whatever education he had before entering this life he forgets and is in the hands of the educator teachers should bear this in mind for they surely are factors in making the conscience of those under their cloaree cli aree eliat difference in training produces different standards of right aud wrong is plainly illustrated by the following atory A quaker family had two little sons at alie ago of three one was etolen bv tha indians and of course trained in ways he was found leading 1 band of brutal red men and not only plundering but the scalping knife and gloating over blood the brother was reared in the quiet peaceful quaker ways to that extent that lie would not harm the least of gods creatures surely the training made that difference another beautiful point was made clear by sir brimhall and that was that debating for victory regardless of ohp desire for the geici of truth results in an imbecile conscience A debater who beh ecca one thing to be right but for the sake of argument takes the opposite side will in tune become mixed in his opinions his conscience will become confused and imbecility will fill its place A person know what is right but unless he u ills to do it he will be a dead engine taken from under alie wheels down the hill it will go bupt supt E A said that teachers examination henceforth would all be public and the days for such examinations set by the county court those teachers wishing certificates now might get temporary ones which would bo good until another examination an examination probably be provided for in november Pro gramme for next meeting was as follows revolutions their cabisca and effects by J A kees literary gems from teachers Instrument ail music ottilie laeber class
