Show GRAND the arrangements made at the meet ing last sunday the meeting announced to be held last sunday far the purpose of perfecting arrangements range ments for a grand rally bof the band of utah chui coui ty this month ans attended by delegates from the payson spanish fork salem springville Spring ville provo and lehi bands and also oy delegates from Kirk bams silver band of lehi and hulisha brass band of payson mr A M fox leader of the lehi brass band nominated mr james H wallis chairman who was duly elected to that position by the vote of the delegates mr brig johnson was unanimously ani elected secretary the chairman stated the object of the meeting viz to take into consideration the advisability of holding a grand rally of all bands in utah county on the of september and also to effect a county organization for the purpose of arranging a rally every year at which a contest of the bands shall be held for s the chairman also thought it would be a good idea for some one to ba appointed to conduct the bands on that day and the person appointed should select five quicksteps to be played in unison and that each band be visited by him for the purpose of rehearsing with them mr A M fox thought the ideas advanced were good the pieces placed in unison should be used by the majority of bands in the county alie subject of a contest for prizes was then vigorously discussed mr A M fox thought the awarding of prizes would engender hard feelings among the defeated bands as also did mr kees james of spanish fork mr ed huish and mr isaac fox were of a different opinion it would rather tend to stimulate the unfortunate ones it would make the indifferent band members more ambitious to excel and it would tend to cement the bands rather than promote ill feeling after a good deal of discussion it was finally agreed that there should be a rally on september a contest held and four prizes awarded two for baad playing and one each for cornet and baas solo playing A committee to arrange for the contest was then appointed consisting of james H wallis leader of the provo silver band sees jones leader spanish earlc brass band and A M fox leader lehi brass band the subject of appointing a director for the day was then discussed resulting in the election of mr james H wallis who was empowered to select five easy pieces to be played in unison by the bands and also to visit each band and rehearse with them A motion that there be a county musical organization for the bands was then made and met with the unanimous vote of the meeting mr alfred M fox was appointed president and mr james H wallis secretary and treasurer each band was instructed to elect a vice pres ident and forward the names to the secretary the following gentlemen were then appointed a committee on constitution and bylaws by laws jas H wallis of provo wm H davis spanish fork thomas parra springville Spring ville orson P huise huish brass band frank B davia salem brass band isaac fox lehi brass band andrew anderson lehi silver band mr isaac fox was authorized by this committee to draft the constitution and bylaws by laws and to submit theato a committee meeting to be held for that purpose prior to the rally of the bands tho constitution and bylaws by laws arc to be presented to the bands on the of the present month for adoption the meeting then adjourned subject to the call of the president |
