Show RAILROAD PURCHASE ONE OF IMPORTANCE Hill Is Given a New Outlet, to His System ; Plans Are Outlined. A recent dispatch from Chicago says: Tho purchase of the Colorado & Southern South-ern by the Burlington is of Importance, not only from the magnitude of the deal, but by reason of tho relative location of the systems concerned. The Burlington and the Great Northern lines, constituting constitut-ing tho system controlled by J. J. Hill, are given an outlet to the Gulf of Mexico, completing a route from the far northwest north-west and Pugot sound, as well as the Burlington western territory, to Galveston. Galves-ton. The Colorado & Southern connects with the Burlington at Cheyenne, Wyo., and at Denver, Colo., anfl In order to se-curo se-curo a shorter and more direct route from Denver to tho northwest it would only he necessary to build the short connecting linos to Cheyenne. Wyo., and from Orln Junction to Gillette or Pheridan, Wyo., to a connection with tho Burlington's line to Billings. Mont., whore it joins tho Northern Pacific-. In this oonnootlon recent re-cent reports statod that the Colorado & Southern contemplated extension at an early date to Forsyth, Mont., and thence to a point on the Great Northern. Tho first construction was to be from Orln Junction, Wyo.. the present terminus of tho road, to Forsytho, -60 miles, and later tho remainder of the lino to the Great Northern. Another report outlined plans for nn extension of the road to include a northern extension from the present terminus in AVyomlng to a point cast of Billings. Mont., a distance of 'J50 miles, connecting with tho new Pacific coast extension, of. the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul. This now outlet, which now goes to the Hill system, was made possible by the recent re-cent completion by tho Chicago, Rock Island & Pucltic of the Trinity & Brasos Valley, which extends from Fort Worth to Galveston, Tex. Tho Colorado & Southern South-ern and the Rock Island aro partners In this deal, each owning a half of the road's securities. This combination completed the Colorado .t Southern outlet to the gulf at Galveston, gave It tho use of the Rock Island's wharves In thut city and gave the Rock Island an outlet to the gulf from Fort Worth, in connection with thH Fort Worth Si Denver City road, which is controlled by the Colorado & Southern by a slock ownership. |
