NEW YORK, Sept. 4. A confessed accomplice ac-complice in tho murder of her two-year-old daughter, whoso mutilated body was subsequently bathed and neatly clad in Its best clothes and then tossed Into the open doorway of a West Side tenement house, Agnes Hylnnd, aged 2o years, was locked up tonight. Baby Was "in the Way." Gustavo Denser, a plumber, with whom the woman lived as his housekeeper, la also under arrest. The mother told tho police that Denser killed her baby girl Gertrude because It was "In the way," and that she helped to dlsposo of tho bedv. The Janitor of the tenement this morning morn-ing stumbled over the body, which, wrapped In a newspaper, lay In a corner of the dark .stairway. Physicians found a mortal wound on the temple, whllo tho face bore nine slab wounda, apparently made bv a penknife. Confession Follows Arrest. I-ator In the day tho body -was Identified by the janltress of a tenement on West Forty-fifth street, tho home of the Hy-land Hy-land woman. Tho arrest of tho mother nnd Denser, and the confession of the former followed. According to tho mother, tho child, who was an attractive, robust youngster with a profusion of light curly hair and blue eyes, was beaten to dcalh tho previous pre-vious night because Denser, who has throe children of his own. objected to her presence In tho home. Later tho mother washed thov body lo remove blood stains, and, dressing it, carried It to the doorway whera It was found. Man Denies the Charge. Denser denied the murder of tho child, to the support of which, he said, he had, however, objected. He said that at tho request of the mother he hnd punished Gertrudo Sunday night and afterward left tho house. When he returned the mother told him that the child wus dead, and he went with her to dispose of the body. |
