Show SLATER PULLED THE ELIN9S Found Guilty of Obstructing His Snloon Windows on Sunday Henry Slater bartender In the saloon sa-loon of Hayes Regan at 5S Commercial Commer-cial street was yesterday found guilty before Judge Tanner oC violating the provisions of the ordinance regulating the sale oC intoxicating liquors 1 which provides that on Sunday no blinds or screens shall obstruct from the sidewalk side-walk on the outside a complete view of the Interior l of places where liquors are sold Judge Tanner deferred the passIng pass-Ing of sentence until Wednesday at 2 p m The case was tried before a Jury composer com-poser of Oscar Dourne William Ing ham John Robinson and W J loul ton and was quite warmly contested Attorney James F Smith appearing for the defendant while Prosecutor Schul der looked after the Interest of the city Officers Smith Cllve and Gulbransen as witnesses for the prosecution explained ex-plained how on Sunday August 23rd they had found the view of the Interior of the saloon In question almost entirely entire-ly obstructed by blinds drawn at the windows how by climbing upon a railIng rail-Ing at a side door they had soen Sat lon l-on the inside drawing beers for two customers and how he had disiegard ed their attempts to gain entrance to the place The defendant Proprietor Hayes and the porter tried to show that the blinds did not greatly obslruc the view and testified that no liquor was sold but the Jury found the evidence of the prosecution sufllclently weighty to uphold the complaint under the ordinance |
