Show NATIONAL EISTEDDFOD Music Hall Cincinnati Packed to Witness the Exercises CInclnatl Tan 11he National Eis teddfod attracted large crowds to this city today The musical and literary I features In competition for the annual prizes constituted the morning afternoon after-noon and evening programmes and kept Music hall packed with enthusiastic enthu-siastic audiences Some of the most I noted musical directors of the country participated with their societies in the contests i i I The preliminary examinations of candidates for the contests were held early In the morning and the opening session began promptly at 10 a in withy with-y grind organ march by George W Webb followed by opening choruses America and Hen Wind Fy Nha dan with Maldwyn Evans as soloist Benjamin Jones president of the Kis I ted fod association then introduced Judge David Davis as the president of the morning session After addresses by President Jones and Judge Davis Hon JJ M Edwards Scranton Pa was introduced as the conductor and literary adjudicator followed by the presentation of the musical adjudicators adjudica-tors Prof Edward < Broome of Montreal Mon-treal Prof T J Davies of Plttsburg and Prof O II Evans of Marysville X After the Bardic salutations and proclamations by The Bards tho contests were begun Hon D Webster Williams of Jackson 0 presided In the afternoon and Col William B Mclinh of Cincinnati at night Both delivered addresses followed fol-lowed by Bardic salutations and proclamations procla-mations by the bards George W Webb presided at the great organ In the afternoon and Miss Annie Peat of Racine Wis In the evening The contests con-tests were interspersed with solos by Maldwyn Evans Oscar J Ehrgott Miss Annie E Griffiths Miss Bessie Tudor and Harry E Jones by selections from the Cambrian club of Cincinnati directed di-rected by David Davis It was decided to hold the national Eisteddfod next January at Columbus O The crowning event tonight was the contest for 0000 and gold medal for the best mixed chorus of not less than seventyfive voices The Ada 0 normal nor-mal university and Lima Choral union won under the directorship of Hugh W Owens I |
