Show REPLY EVANGELIST I MADE TO THE NEWS AND NOT ITO I-TO MR hENRY I He Insists that His Language Has Been Fit to be Heard and Calls for a Vote on the Question I TSvangolist Oliver did not reply directly I rectly last night to Her Mr Henrys remarks made at the First Methodist I church on Sunday In regard to the I I methods adopted by the evangelist to save souls lie thought Mr Henry had made a mistake and was was sorry he I had said what he did The speaker did however attack the News which had approved Mr I Henrys remarks and of I the writer of the article who said that the evangelist had used objectionable I language said I want to brand the man that wrote that as a dirty malicious I mali-cious liar Do you hoar me puppy I As to the charge that he has referred Ito I-to evils of the grossest character he reiterated what he has said on almost every occasion on which he has spoken as to the rottenness of the city government govern-ment and said he was furnished with some ammunition yesterday which he may shoot oft and which would show I up some of the city fathers as being in trenched jn some things that are very I bad As to his characterizing women as hoifers he mild that Samson applied the same name to his wife and that I people who opposed his language opposed op-posed the Bible As to calling men dogs hn denied the charge saying he had called dogs dogs but that some of thorn walked on two legs Then too he Said that Paul warned men against dogs and did not refer to canines either I The evangelist said In closing his remarks re-marks that he had come to Salt Lake City with but one desire In his heart to help men and womon ife said the ar tlcle referred to said he had used obscene ob-scene language thus branding those I who had listened to him night after J night as lovers of that sort of thing I and naked all those present who indorsed in-dorsed what he had said and who 1 wished to brand the article referred to as a lie to stand up About 90 per pent of the audience arose After they sat down he asked every one who was opposed to what he had said or done to get right up on your hind legs and lets see you No one got up The sermon of the evening was preached from the text Josus answered an-swered and said unto him Verily verily veri-ly 1 I May unto thee except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God |
