Show ANOTHER ACCOUNT Press Report of the Shooting and tho Causes Leading to It Denver Cob Jan 12H II Tam men and Fred rtonflls proprietors of the Denver Post were shot in the olllce of that newspaper nt noon today by W W Anderson an attorney Both are severely wounded Anderson tired live I shots Two of them are said to have wounded BonfUs one in the side and I I the other In thearm Tammen vaa choc In the shoulder the bullet golnr Itno 1 hIS breast The physicians from their hasty examination declared the j I wounds wer not dangerous although I I a closer examination might chow them I to be otherwise Both men were able to walk to the carriages that carried them home ANDERSON ARRESTED AfCcr the shooting Anderson walked out of the olllce unmolested but was later arrested He refused re-fused to talk when seen at tho police station but bruises on his I face showed that he had received rough handling It is understood that Tam men and Bonllls were attempting to eject him from their olllce when he began be-gan shooting As he was leaving J the Post ofllce the lawyer said that Bonflls and Tammen both attacked him and that he refused his revolver in selfde I fense TAMMENS STATEMENT Tammen and Bonus say that Anderson Ander-son walked Into their ofllce and commenced com-menced shooting without more ado Ho shot Bonflls and then came after me said Tammen He followed me up and hemmed me In one of the corners Polly Pol-ly Pry Jumped in front of me and tried to shield me She saved me from being be-ing killed although she could not protect pro-tect me from being shot QUARRELED REGARDING FEE It is learned that the publishers and the lawyer quarreled In regard to a fee which Anderson had received from Packer known as the Cannibal who is serving a term in prison for murder and for whom the Post has been endeavoring en-deavoring to obtain a pardon SOMETHING ABOUT TAMMEN I Mr 11 H Tammen had been associated asso-ciated with Mr Frederick Bonflls formerly I for-merly ot Kansas City in the publica tion of the Post Alnce ISOo > Mr Tam I men was the founder of the Great Divide Di-vide a monthly magazine the publication publica-tion of which was begun In this city but which was subsequently removed ItO I-to Chicago He Is proprietor of one of I I the leading curio stores in the Vest EDITOR CARROLLS STORY John F Carroll managing editor of the Post made the following statement in regard to the causes leading up to the air ray Thu Packer case was at tho bottom of the dllllculty Anderson who was I Packers attorney believed he could open the ease again on the grounds that Packer had been convicted In a Slate court whereas his crime had been committed on a Government reservation reserva-tion and that consequently he should havo been held to trial by the UnIted States authorities The Post agreed to help him to reopen the case on these grounds If he would consent to let I N Stevens the Posts attorney direct the case To this Anderson agreed Polly Pry visited Packer and discovered dis-covered that Anderson had secured 25 from him to be used in the prosecution of the case Anderson represented that he was one of teh directors of the Post and as the post had championed his cause Packer turned over the money Later Packer revoked Andersons authority to act as attorney for him nacrBons actions naturally Inseiued Mr Tanimen and Mr Ponfils and they sent for Anderson They charged him with fame representations and a quarrel quar-rel ensued CONDITION OF WOUNDED MEN Both the wou < lcd publishers are rest ing comCortabJ tonIght Mr Tammens inJuries though painful are not dan erout5 iSJn Donnlss condition IS Crlti calf one bUllet having lodgd in the neck in the region oC lhe great blood vessels and nerves |
