Show I PROPOSED NATIONAL HIGHWAY I I II I Automobile Club of America Takes the Matter Up I New York April 2he Automobile I Club of America gave u dinner tonight at the WaldorfAstoria hotel to Maj Gen Nelson A Miles and others of the commission which has been considering tho project of a national highway from tho Atlantic to the Pacific ocean The I commission Is not an official body but Gen Miles and his associates undertook the work of preparing the preliminary work In response to That the automobile automo-bile club considered a popular demand Albert A Popo read a report on behalf I of the committee In which he presented the following resolution Resolved That the route presenting tho most feasible line for C national highway from the Atlantic to the Pacific Pa-cific seems to your committee to bo between be-tween the fortieth and fortysecond parallels of latitude This embraces Boston from which point the route could be stretched east to Portland IC then Albany reached by a great I highway from New York Philadelphia Baltimore Washington Charleston Savannah and St Augustine from Albany Al-bany running west through Syracuse Rochester Buffalo and Niagara Falls through Erie Cleveland Toledo Adrian Ad-rian Coldwater DSIkharU South Bend Chicago Davenport Des Moines and Council Bluffs Omaha Lincoln Hastings Hast-ings across the Rocky mountains at Denver Salt Lake City Sacramento and San Francisco a southern line reaching to Los Angeles and u northerly north-erly to Portland and Seattle Tho resolution urges that the matter be broughL promptly to ito attention of thc people of the twentyfive Stales and Territories through which the road would pass In order that Congress maybe may-be petitioned I to authorize the preliminary prelimi-nary surveys required for such a national na-tional highway providing If possible for tho completion of the survey of the section between Boston and Chicago I the first year between Chicago and Omaha tho second year between Now I York and St Augustine the thlDL year and the remaining sections wUnm the folowInl years The report was adopt I |
