Show TALKS OF CRIMINALS W A Pinkerton Famous Detective p Discusses Recent Robberies WilliamA Pinkerton the wellknown detective spent yesterday In Salt Lake Mr Pinkerton was on the way to his Chicago home from the Pacific coast whither he went to look after the agencies of the great PInkerton s stern s-tern His present stop in Zion he said had no particular significance except that he wished to meet a few parties with whom he is connected in a business busi-ness way Mr Pinkerton In speaking of the arrest In Chicago of Esmond who Is wanted in Salt Lake as reported report-ed In yesterdays dispatches said I believe that Esmond from the fact that a burglars outfit was found on him and from other circumstances in the case Is the same individual who was arrested in Salt Lake some years ago for picking the pockets of Christian Endeavor excursionists He was held a few days at that time but as all the 1 witnesses were strangersand left the city he was released Mr PInkerton then spoke of tho recent re-cent robbery on tho Great Northern road where the Montana bank notes were taken The man who was found at Nashville Tenn a few weeks ago while trying to dispose of some of the I atolcn money said Mr Pinkerton Is known as Deaf Charley and his real name Is Hanks His escape from two able and experienced olllcern ranks as one of the most daring and successful breaks for liberty in the history of the country The theory which we have long ago held that the Southern robbers I rob-bers who have been operating1 In Texas Tex-as Arizona and New Mexico had a i deadline connection with the Montana gang was recently proved to be true by the finding of a photographic group of the principal leaders In both gangs at Fort Worth Tex These hardened I criminals have weak spots and one of the weakest spots In their nature is sitting for pictures In the group found were Black Jack recently hanged In Arizona of tho Southern gang Hanks who escaped from tho officers at Nashville Klrkpatrlck who Is held at St Louis where he was found with a good sum of the stolen Montana money on his person and Butch Cassidy Cas-sidy who represented the Middle country coun-try These men simply got together and after enjoying a visit felt so important Im-portant that they could not resist the temptations of the camera |
