Show NEWS OF = THE GUARD 1I I Thus far the names of eight ofllcers have been announced as having sue I cussfully passed their examinations Eight have failed to appear before the I board while two have failed to pass The name of First Lieut Goodmanson I was added to the list yesterday of those who were successful The complete com-plete returns of tho board are not yet at headquarters An Investigation as I I to why those cited to appeTtr before the board failed to show up has already I been Inaugurated 1 I S I Twentyfive thousand rounds Qf ammunition am-munition from the Government arsenal reached the armory during the week A large l quantity of quartermasters supplies sup-plies aLso arrived and they will be Issued Is-sued to the men as needed The shipment ship-ment includes campaign hats leggings blousea trousers gloves and belts As yet nothing has been heard from tho artillery equipment that Is expected to replace the States guns taken by the volunteers C S Twentyfive names are now on the roster of the new cavalry troop that Is being organized Those who are engaged en-gaged in organizing the troop arc confident confi-dent of having It ready for mustering In within the next ten days The necessary equipment and ample quarters await the new troop at the armory S S Io Within the next few days the Guard will have an addition to < ut > ranks Application Ap-plication has been made to headquarters headquar-ters for the mustering in oCa body of men who have been gathered together by Lleuts Webb and Grow The now company may be sworn In tomorrow evening at the armory but It Is not improbable Im-probable that the ceremony will be delayed de-layed a day or two While it is not yet definitely known the new company will likely assigned to the first battalion under command of MaJ H M II Lund Tho new organization will serve as Infantry In-fantry until the arrival of the new artillery ar-tillery equipment Then the cpmpany will be transformed Into a battery to man the new field guns A number of those dvho are now on the rolls were members of the Utah artillery and the company will go Into the Guard with the prospects of becoming a crack organIzation or-ganization S I S The signal corps turned out with the Elks Wednesday evening making good showing with their well polished accouterments and good alignment W SI So far as known the only officers who failed to pass their examinations are Lieut Tobias of the signal corps and I Lieut Carstensen of company C First Infantry Elections to fill the vacancies caused bv their failures have not as yet been ordered S S S The companies beginning to work hard at the manual cit arms that they may be In I readiness for the general Inspections In-spections at the encampment |
