Show FOR NEW SCHOOL DISTRICT PETITION PRESENTED TO COMMISSIONERS COM-MISSIONERS YESTERDAY The New District if Created Will Comprise Portions of Present Districts Dis-tricts 38 and 59th The biennial petition of residents of Grangerand North Jordan asking for the creation of a new school district t I out of parts of the Thirtyeighth and Thirtyninth districts was heard by the County Commissioners yesterday This in the third time that the petition has been heard I first came up four years ago and was taken under advisement I ad-visement for a couple of years Then it was presented aga nnndagnn It was tumbled into a pigeon hole At the end of two more years however It has come up for the third time as I sprightly as ever and It Is probable that It will now be acted upon favorably favor-ably yesterdays hearing N P Peterson of district Fiftynine and Mahorni Spencer Archibald Frame and William Barker of district appeared ap-peared In opposition to the granting of the petition Peterson expressed the fear that If the territory asked for was taken from district Fiftynine that district might not then bo able to maintain a good I school hereafter as Us revenues would j be turtalled Spencer Frame and Harker objected I upon the ground that the new district would take some valuable property from district Thirtyeight and would cripple the revenues of thai district Eli Curtis and Samuel l D Wallace of district Thirtyeight who appeared in support of the petition said that thp lands sought to be embraced In the new district were mostly adapted to dry farming and were not as valuable as the objectors represented In view of this fact he said the new district would have to bear all the burdens He also pointed out that many of the children In district Thirtyeight lived I three and a half miles distant from the schoolhouse and that a special tax I had been levied for several years with which to hire a conveyance to take them to school Barnard Stewart attorney for the petitioners talked along the same lines Superintendent Van Cot who has I heretofore opposed the creation of the or new district now heartily favors Hand H-and urged the granting of It yesterday I He also said that district Thirtyeight had been levying a special tax for the purpose of building an additional schoolhouse but that It had not been built At the conclusion of the arguments an adjournment was taken until Fri 1 day next when others will be heard I |
