Show = MISSING BOAT PARTY RETURNS Had Some Exciting Adventures that Compelled Them to Stay Out l Longer than They Expected But Were Not in Peril I The missing boat party which sailed from Saltalr Sunday afternoon arrived L ar-rived at the beach about noon yesterday yester-day all well nnd sound after having had some real shipwreck experiences The story of the trip as told by W L Eastman > one of the members the party la about as follows We left about oclock Sunday afternoon af-ternoon expecting to return Monday morning There were four of us Mr John llobreckcr Jr of Omaha the owner of the boat Frank Heep an employee of the pavilion here Mr Hobrcckers sisterinlaw whose name r cannot at this moment recall and myself When we started we had 0 sixty foot I mast on the boat After wo got out we tried a new balloon Jib The wind freshened a little and broke off about thirty feet of the mast Wo lacked then amid as the wind hal become quite strong when the boom came around It brole off a couple of feet more of tho mast We were then forced to take In the mainsail and put Into White Rock bay at the north end of Antelope island about twentyflvo I miles from the pavilion Wo remained there Sunday night and on Monday fixed up the boat a little and left about 3 oclock Monday afternoon for home When we got out the lady got frightened fright-ened at the wind and we put back Into the bay again In going In the second time we went In the north side of the bay and as It was dack we grounded We three men got out and tried to push the boat of but we could not do It We had a tent and some bedding in the boat and taking these ashore In the rowboat established a camp on land landWe We stayed there all day Tuesday Wo got the boat oft Wednesday and came about half way down the Island when the wind quit us We anchored there last night and came In this morning Our water ran out Tuesday and we had no water for thirtysix hours but we had plenty of canned fruit and by drinking the Juice we suffered very little On Wednesday morning we got some water but as it was very strong with sulphur we drank but little of It using It to make coffee The boat is a good seaworthy craft and rode some fifteenfoot waves we I met like a duck After it grounded however it leaked a little but at no time was It dangerous I The lady showed good courage all through the trip but she was seasick almost all the time Mr Hobrccker is a manufacturers agent for steel ranges and stoves with headquarters In Omaha He reaches Salt Lake from California about tho first of July each year and spends the months of July and August here Mr Eastman lives in Salt Lake and Is ness associated with M Hobrccker In busi |
