Show NOT FREE SILVER BUT GREENBACKS Voters especially those who call themselves Silver Republicans as a rule do not realize what Is really contemplated con-templated by the leaders of the Demo l I oralic and Populist parties The purpose I pur-pose Is i to flood this country with irredeemable ir-redeemable paper money The men who believed in gold and silver money eight years ago recoiled before the platform of Gen Weaver but Mr Bryan voted for Weaver and indorsed I Ills platform This year Gen Weaver Is warmly supporting Mr Bryan and indorsing his platform Then when It came time to nominate a candIdate I for VicePresIdent at Kansas City 1 what was done Mr Towne had been nominated at Sioux Falls the Silver Republicans in convention at Kansas City wanted him but after bucking and filling at last all others were put aide and Stevenson was nominated Why Not because ho had ever said 01 done a thing worth remembering not because he had Impressed his personality per-sonality in the least upon the country as a pleasant gentleman socially and a behcader of Republican postmasters but because ho was an oldlime green backer when under the pressure of the great Civil war debt he had run off with the others In an effort to meet the obligations of the Government by paying them in irredeemable promises to pay I anyone will carefully read the Democratic plalform they will see this purpose shining out between the lines Gen Weaver sees it and indorses the platform and la going from State Ic State In its support On Sunday I morning a contemporary published a communication from the pen of Mr Henry Lawrence advocating the re sloralion of silver A careful reading of that reveals the fact that consciously I conscious-ly or unconsciously Mr Lawrence does not begin to believe that sliver restoration restora-tion will fix things a they should be that really what Is needed is such a change in the currency that men can get practically all the money they want up lo about tho full value of their property without paying much of any Interest and without paying tho principal prin-cipal until I shall become convenient Now less than a month after the nomination of Mr Bryan we see the strongest of his organs In the East protesting that silver Is not an issue that the real Issue is something else though Mr Bryan dictated that plank and refused to be a candidate unless It should be Included In tho platform Why this sudden change Is it be causo those journals have l at last Interpreted the platform as It was meant to be interpreted by the faithful faith-ful I does not mean making money by the slow process of coining silver dollars not at alh I means the making ma-king of promises to pay by machinery the only limitation upon it being the advance in wood pulp for paper Let no voter be deceived Tho election of Mr Bryan and a Democratic Congress means practically repudiation by flooding the country with greenbacksi |
