Show WITH THE WHEELMEN I I Probably the biggest match race of the season Will be run tonight at the Salt Palace cycle track between J M Chapman and Charles Turvillo for a 200 purse The race will be twentyfive miles the riders to start from opposite sides of the track Each man will be paced by a motor and very fat miles should be ridden The first three or four miles ought to be ridden at about a 135 gait and should the men fall tc catch each other every mile should be made In less than 140 Chapman will I have two motors ready for use having secured John Lawsons new machine I which has just arrived from the East I In connection with the big event there will V be four snrlnt races a a Iyer Lawson and John Chapman ml not go East as they reported several days ago but will remain here for the entire season at the close of which I they will gO toNAustralia for n year I The two riders have cleared over 1500 in cash so far this season S e 53 o A W Smith J C Olson and Hod gert made a run to Provo Saturday evening They returned Monday arriving ar-riving in Salt Lake at C20 a m after spending a most enjoyable time in Pleasant Grove and Provo They rePort re-port the roads in good conditions S S U V Considerable interest is being taken In the Westminster Sundayschool road V race which occurs this evening and will be ono of the features of the schools annual outing The race will be run from Bountiful to Lagoon and the start will be made at 630 The V entries are as follows ScratchG H Lucas and Will Guthrie Baptist Sundayschool V 130G Williamson Westminster Sundayschool mission Alex McLccso Westminster V 2OOE S Conroy Congregational Sundayschool 300 Archie Mackey Westminster Sundayschool W P Havener Westminster West-minster mission The time prize will be a silver medal the first prize AvJll be a gas lamp and tho second prize will be a camera J V A Augustus of the Yll C AJs the official handicapperS S S t V The YL C A Wheel club took a run to Sandy and Went through the smelters there last night Lunch was partaken of at Sandy and a thoroughly V thorough-ly 1 enjoyable time was had by all those who went out S S S W E Trapp manager of the Pocatello Poca-tello bal team Dan Hickey of the Rio V Grande and J Clipplnger of the Short Lines held a meeting In Ogden last night in connection with Manager Gimlin of the Ogden team to consider the difficulties In the UtahIdaho league During the meeting a resolution resolu-tion was adopted throwing Ogden out of the league This action was afterward after-ward rescinded and the difficulties are in a fair way to be settled Manager Gimlin proposed to go to Pocatello and play tho schedule games provided the last game played at Pocatello should be played over This was agreeable to Trapp and if Gimlin IB sustained by the club the difficulty will have been adjusted The three visitors held an executive session at which Manager Gimlin preferred pre-ferred not to be present After the session was over the proposed adjustment adjust-ment was made In the game today with the Cheyenne Chey-enne Indians Pendergraft of the Rio Grandes will pitch for Ogden The Indians have played good ball but the heavy hitting of the Ogdens was too much for them The visitors go to Salt Lake Wednesday and will play the Rio Grandes there Wednesday Thursday and Friday On their return Saturday they will play another game here The Cheyenne boys are all gentlemen gen-tlemen and know how to play fast clean ball |
