Show SHEEP ON TIMBER RESERVES Interior Bureau Urged to Permit Grazing In BI Horn Country TRIBUNE BUREAU 601 Fourteenth street Washington D C March 111900 Representative Mondell went beforetime before-time Secretary of the Interior today and urged the allowance of sheep grazing upon the Big Horn timber reservation In Wyoming He called attention to a recent report of tIe geological survey setting forth that fully onehalf of this reserve is grazing land and that careful care-ful Investigation showed that no damage dam-age has Ien < caused In the past by allowing al-lowing sheep to graze thereon Secretary Hitchcock while not giving any dellnite promise Indicated that permits per-mits may be granted allowing a limited number 0 sheep to graze during the season If this be done a charge will be made of from 1 to 3 cents per head for tIe seasons grnlng privilege Mr Mondell protested against any charge being made culling attention to the short season and urging that the grazing port ns of the reserve should be as free to stock owners ns the general gen-eral I ranges I I Is believed that should sheep be permitted to graze on this or any of the timber reserves of the West the department de-partment will exact a charge for the privilege |
