Show WHEELMEN PROTEST WANT THE MAYOR TO VETO THE BICYCLE ORDINANCE Cyclists to Have a Hearing on Monday Mon-day Generally Thought the Mayor Will Approve the Measure A number of wheelmen are busily engaged in circulating a petition for presentation to the Mayor asking that he veto the ordinance passed by the City Council last Tuesday evening pro ihlbillng I the riding of wheels on the sidewalks within an enlarged district In the center of the city The wheel mens objection to the ordinance is that the strips In the center of tIme streets set apart for cyclists by the ordinance have not been paved or put condition to promote easy cycling They want the ordinance amended so as to permit them to use the sidewalks until the paths in the streets are paved and in good condition A number of the wheelmen waited on the Mayor yesterday and asked that I they be given a hearing before he took action on the matter and the Mayor appointed Monday forenoon at his office of-fice in the city and county building for them to meet with him and make their statements Councilman Hartensteln the author of limo ordinance stated to1 the Mayor last night that for every signature that could be obtained against the ordinance or-dinance twenty could be secured In favor of it The Mayor was noncommittal noncom-mittal as to Ills views regarding it but there is little doubt that he will give the measure his approval |
