Caller Cal-ler park yesterday afternoon by 1 the Utah Gentlemens Driving club were a j success The day was an Ideal l one the crowd was an orderly one and not j so large that It could not be easily handled and themanagement of the events was wlthouUfaull so that I conditions con-ditions contributed to enjoyment Tho rirat race was called at2 oclock and the last heat was finished at G30 t and I during that time six races covering fifteen heats were run so that there was no lagging and the excitement was well kept up Nothing happened to mar the evenness of the day except that two young men Thayer West and Bert Morgan refused to sol off the grounds Inside the track when request sd to do so and offered resistance to Deputies Goldman and Harries One of the young men went so far as to exchange blows with Mr Goldman much to hIs grief for the two were taken to the county jail I If TV Brown acted as starter and he with J S Bransforrt and T M I Moore were the Judges The score was kept by F E Schefski secretary of the ilub Over two thousand people watched the contests of speed I MOST EXCITING HEAT I The first was a freeforall pacing race best three in five for 200 to be divided GO and 40 per cent between I I Tombstone owned by 11 McKenzIe and I I driven by James Hansen anti Hal Cor I I bctt owned and driven by Thomas Mc Coy The first heat was not only the I most exciting one of the race but of the day as well and the time of the first half mile 105 was probably the I I best speed ever made on the track j I The heat was made in 21031 although the track was nt least a second slow on I account of being oversprinkled It I was run for blood Driver Hansen vigorously i vig-orously laying the whip from the first I eighth mile to Tombstone and winning win-ning by a half length The time for I tho quarters of this heat was 33 105 I 140 and 216 Tombstone also won the third and fourth heats which gave him tho race WON BY JUPITER In the second event a named 225 pace for 160 there were entered Jupiter Jupi-ter owned and driven by Dr J B I Kcysor J Andersons Julia A driven by Charles Smith and American Fleet owned and driven by J McCoy The best time was made In the first heat 2214 which was won by American American dropped to second place in the second heat and to third place in both the fourth and fifth heats Jupiter 1 Jupi-ter won tho second fourth and fifth heats and the race For the last heat Driver McCoy was replaced by Thomas Harris for having held up In preceding preced-ing heat after being convinced he could not win winSTRIFE STRIFE OVER A FINe Driver Smith was replaced by James Hansen and fined 510 for driving In front of Jupiter at the pole after being warned not to do so Smith protested vigorously and not too respectfully and Starter Brown added S15 more to the fine for his talk The 25 was paid by Mr Anderson without protest the 1 ownerof the horse but the judges decided L de-cided that tho fine was against the driver and not the owner and that Smith would stand suspended until the fine was paid by him or by Mr Anderson Ander-son for him after being advised oC the conditions MAY TOOK THE PURSE The third event was a named pacc for 100 In which there were entered Charles Halls May John Holleys Co mariche Girl and Al Pendletons Monkey Monk-ey driven by their owners and Dr Keoghs Mack driven by J McCoy There were three heats all won by May The best time was 2ISVi1 Mack was distanced In the nrst This was the leaqt Interesting event of the day The principal feature was the difficulty in telling whether it was a running or a pacing race THE RUNNING RACES Tho next was Ia threeeighths mile dash for 100 between A W Wlnberg Jrs Sinner Clarence McCornlcks Sea Queen Matt Cullens Campbell and Dr Keoghs Skagmuck They started in a bunch at first score and kept close together to-gether to the finish Sea Queen won in a ricck Time 6I seconds After this came ft threeeighth mile dash for 150 between John Axlcys Colagula Dr Kendalls Red Bird and T McCoys Miss Rcmsen Red Bird won In 10314 and the other two tied for second money After this came a fiveeighths mile dash for 1GO between Mountain Queen and Ben Bolt owned by T McCoy andS and-S Samuel Clarks Lynvllle Mountain Queen won and Lynvllle came In second sec-ond Time 117 Tho running races were all well run and heartily cheered by the spectators THE SUMMARIES Following are the
