Show I WHAT COMPANY SAYS I Wages of Number of Men Have Been Voluntarily Raised New York April Commissioner Delehanty of the State Board of Mediation Medi-ation and Arbitration conferred with Superintendent of Motive Power A M 1 Waltt of the New York Central Hudson Hud-son River railroad today in regard to I the striking n at Buffalo who have asked for an Increase of 10 per cent in pay After thc conference It I was announced an-nounced that Superintendent Waltt had agreed to go to Buffalo to meet a committee of striking employees or would receive such a committee here If I the men preferred Mr Waltt said about 950 shop and yard men were on strike Superintendent Waitt after a consultation con-sultation with i President Callaway gave Commissioner Delelianty the fol lowing statement In reply to the de mand of the striking employcco of the road In Buffalo The New York Central Cen-tral desires to deal not only justly but liberally with Its employees on the l subject of wages With this object II I and without any demand It voluntarily i within sixty days IncroaBtd the wages I of many of tho men now out on strike Ijs found on investigation that thc company Is nQy paying higher wages than some companies and as high as any company similarly situated but notwithstanding this situation the company will take up any question of adjustment of wages I In reply to thc demand that no one shall be employed or Uncharged by the I company except with the consent < of the non who arc now out thc position I of the company Is The officers bclnr responsible for the safety of the lives of Its passengers and employees for the protection of the public In the op eration of Its railroad and for Its rapid carriage of thc business of the company cannot delegate to others the I selection of the men upon whoso skill 1 and fjdelty so much depends c |
