Show CRUSHED UNDER ORE JAMES 0 HEREOF OP MEROUR INSTANTLY KILLED He and His Partner Had Tailed to Test the Roof for Loose Rock After a Shot and Sad Result Followed TRIBUNE SPECIAL Morcur April 12 James O Horron a miner employed nt time Golden Gate mine was Instantly killed by a fall of rock about 2 oclock this morning The only witness to the accident was his partner Tom Holmes and to a Coroners Coro-ners Jury this afternoon he gave tim story of how It occurred The men had gone to work on the night shift In sub No 2 In the brickyard brick-yard portion of tIme mine Their work was to run the ore out of an upraise or Incline into a car on ti drift below them The mouth of the upraise was protected by a bulkhead to keep tile ore from coming down too rapidly and occasionally a shot hud to be fired to loosen the ore In the upraise and fetch It down Tho face where they wcjj working was about twelve feet wide and the roof about ten feet above their i hcadH They frequently tried the roof and broke down any piccts that had been loosened by the iihotH They firOd one shot after suppdr but did not try the roof afterward About 2 i oclock after filling a car H rron sat down on one side of the upraIse and Jlolmes stood up on the oUter Without any warning a mass of ore weighing COO or 700 pounds fell from the roof on to Hcrron and Just grazed IlolmcBs head When help was secured and the rock rolled from tho unfortunate man ho was found crushed to death Death must have been IhalantaneouH as his back wits broken his ribs crushed In and his head maahiid The Jury with The Tribune correspondent corre-spondent vlsllcd tim scene offhe nccl I dent which appear lo have been an unavoidable oliC CORONERS VERDICT The Coroner Jury returned a verdict ver-dict That tile deceased canie to his death by a foil of rock whll working In the Golden Gate mine p1 that death was accldontnl no one being to blame The deceased was 3 year old and had been employed In tho Golden Gate mine about a year lie came from Pleasant Grove whi re lila relatlv reside re-side Ho was a married man find hind three children His wife andjjhlldnm were visiting at Salt Lake at the time of the accident |
