Show SWEDISH CELEBRATION MIDSUMMER DAY FESTIVITIES 1 S 4 S ENJOYED 2Tordcn Literary SocietyHas an Outing Out-Ing at Lagoon Sports of Various Kinds Harked the Day j One of the jolllest crowds that has visited Lagoon this year went out cst cs-t < to celebrate the Swedish Midsummer Mid-summer day festival The event was under the auspices of the Norden Literary Lite-rary society and those who had Immediate Im-mediate charge were J G Gyllcnsvan Otto Rydman unclE H Lundqulst who proved to be most excellent entertain ers Not a moment of the afternoon or evening was wasted and some kind of amusement was In progress during the entire time The maypole L feature of the day was decorated in a very 1 artistic manner by Mrs Hunnu Soder i berg There was a ladles boat race In which Mrs Anna Anderson won first I prire and Mrs B Mndscn second prize and a gentlemens boat iaci1 In which I the first prize was won by Alfred Carl son and UM second by JohivKrlcksoiu I Then there was a series of font races for all ages of both sexes which resulted result-ed as follows Gentlemens races Over 60 years won by 13 JJedman from 10 to CO Alfred Al-fred Larson from 2516 10 Oscar Swen son from 15 to t i5 E Wignjn from 10 to 15 George Larson from S to 10 Edwin Ed-win Blommiltu under S Alfred WIgron Ladies races Over GO years won by Anna Swenson from 10 to 60 Catherine Jorgensen from 25 to 10 Emily Carl I son from 15 to 25 Esther Peterson from 10 to 15 Louisa Larson from S to 10 Matilda Cherly under S Gcrla Nordculst A prize was given to Mrs Christina Llndstrom 82 years of ab the oldest person on the grounds and to John Anderson 7 weeks old the youngest of I the celfbratcrs Beginning at 5 oclock the following musical ai tl literary programme was presented A medley of Swedish airs I by Olsens orchestra a selection by the Swedish choir with Otto Rydman as conductor an oration by K II Nord berg a poem written for the occasion by Mrs Hannah Soderberg speech by I J TV Lawson of Murray humorous medley by II Morlson speech by John C Sandbcrg solo and chorus by X Nllson and tho Swedish choir recitation II recita-tion by Otto Rydman Swedish national airs and America by the Swedish choir In the evening at the pavilion a humorous hu-morous comedy The Deaf Man was presented in which J H Lundquiat Otto Rydman John A Carlson and Miss Clara Johnson took ut and which was tableaux followed by a series of interesting I |
