of Judge of the Second judicial district dis-trict and Attorney Valentine Gideon also of Ogden was nominated for the newlycreated ofilcc of District Attorney Attor-ney It was expected that there would be a lively and Interesting scrimmage in the convention over the Judgeship nomination in case By Henderson and Judge Maloney were sprung as candidates candi-dates and a spirited contest for the Att any fight between I factions was concerned Judge Rolapp had a clear field At a late data II H Henderson called his supporters together ft is I said and gave it out that he preferred not to be and a Judge For prudential reasons he refrained from nominating his choice and said he would support the convention nominee I THE CONVENTION It was 1040 when the delegates quit caucusing thin morning and squared I thcniHolves for business Davis County Coun-ty 1 Chairman R W Barnec rapped for order and T named Samuel Francis I of I Morgan as temporary chairman W II Strcopcr Jr was elected as secretary sec-retary In accordance with a motion Chairman Chair-man Francis appointed a credentials committee consisting of John Seaman I Weber R R Fry of Morgan and j I John G M Barnci of Davis I Daniel llamer Joshua Williams and I Hyrum Stewart were appointed as a I committee on permanent organization I I and order of business The convention thou took a recess of half an hour and I upon reconvening the credentials com II I 1111 lice reported fifty delegates entitled I In vote There were thirtythree from I I Weber county a shortage of six scv I I enlcen from Davis county a shortage of one and Jive from Morgan county I a full delegation The permanent officers named by the I committee were as follows Chairman Hon Thomas D Dee of Weber vicechairman lion Samuel i Francis of Morgan officers and I prayer by Chaplain Farr the chairman called for nominations of District J Judge G 1g Wade of Ogden nominated I nomi-nated Hon Henry H Rolapp W II Slreoper Jr of Davis and Joshua Williams of Morgan seconded the nomination nom-ination each referring In eulogistic terms to the eminent qualifications of their candidate Ilyrum Stewart wanted to close nominations nom-inations and vote on Rolapp by acclamation accla-mation but he withdrew his motion to allow Lorin Farr to speak The veteran Democrat said he was no i sycophant and he believed In iSpeak j Ing right out He had nothing personally person-ally against Rolapp but he thought the statement that the latter was the only qualified man In the district was somewhat extravagant He mentioned r Judge Stephen Maloney as a peer of Rolapp and then sat down Judge Ro lapp was then nominated by acclamation acclama-tion and made a short speech thanking thank-Ing the delegates for this his second unanimous nomination DISTRICT ATTORNEY The call for nominations for District Attorney brought John Seaman to his feet He named Valentine Gideon and was followed by James Ingebretsen I whose candidate waa Elijah Farr L 35 E Abbott SA9 Horn and C E Pearson was pkLced I In nomlnatIonby Mayor Barnes Only one > ballot was necessary to de cide the contest Of the 51 voton cast Gideon received 37 Horn 1 Farr 7 i and Pearson G Mr Gideons nomi nation was made unanimous and he in a few words thanked tile convention for tho honor A campaign committee was appointed to look after the interests of the can didates nominated said
