Show LABOR LEADERS CONFER Executive Committee of American Federation Meets in Denver Denver Cole July 1GThe executive committee of the American Federation of Labor convened In regular quarterly meeting In this city today The meetIng meet-Ing promises to have Important results as action will probably be taken with reference to the Chicago building trades lockout the St Louis street railway strike the olgarmakers trouble In New York and the Coeur dAlene affair The testimony given before the Congressional Congression-al Investigating committee concerning the Idaho minors strike will be fully considered Sevaml ofllclals the miners union in Idaho may be present to enlighten the committee upon several points with which It is not familiar and It Is expected ex-pected that time committee will throw the Influence of the federation In favor of the miners union Among other things a decision expected ex-pected with reference to making an elghthourdoy test The last convention conven-tion at Detroit empowered the body to choose a trade In which the fight should be made and the machinists amid horjeshoprs are both after th selection se-lection 1C the former are chosen It may jeopardize the International agreement agree-ment recently signed by them In either case the war will be general The subject of raising a large defense fund to be used In aid of strikers will be considered The committee accepted the resignations resigna-tions of Messrs Lennon and Pltrcc as delegates to the Brlllsh Trades Union congress them lime being fully occupied occu-pied with other duties and appointed D J Kent of Lincoln Neb and John M Hunter of Springfield 31h In their stead Secretary Morrison of the executive council submitted his report for the eight months and cloven days since the last annual meeting showing the federation fed-eration to be In good condition financially finan-cially During the period mentioned the federation has issued 658 charters six of which have been to national unions three to State branches and sixtyeight to city central bodies The application for a charter of the Paperhangers National union was ta Icon up but was referred to James Duncan Dun-can for investigation and report There Is cvqry reason to believe that thQrc will bo nn amalgamation of the painters paint-ers and decorators and In that event there would be but ono body instead of twoThe The offer of the English Trades union to build In America a John Ruskln hall and furnish the funds for the building of the same was also referredi but will be taken up again before the session closes I The session Is executive and many matters which cannot bo made public at the present time will come up for action or reference The Chicago building trades lockout was considered but no action taken The matter will be taken up again tomorrow to-morrow as will also the St Louis streetcar mens strike Tonight the members of the committee commit-tee visited Elltchs gardens as guests of the ofllclals of the Colorado State Federation of Labor |
