Show Regional Meeting Of Educators Opens Monday The National Commission on Teacher Education and Professional Profes-sional Standards is sponsoring a regional TEPS conference to be held January 8 and 9 at the Hotel Utah in Salt Lake City. Participating states are: Utah Colorado, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. Those in attendance will include representatives of educational associations, state departments of education, colleges col-leges and universities, and national na-tional and lay organizations. The theme of the conference is "New Horizons for the Teaching Profession: Pro-fession: Moving from Ideas to Action." Approximately 100 Utahns in the above classifications will participate in the conference. The National Commission on Teacher Education and Professional Profes-sional Standards, sponsor of the conference, was created by the NEA Representative assembly in 1946, and charged with "Developing "De-veloping and carrying forward a continuing program for the profession in matters of recruitment, recruit-ment, selection, preparation, certification, cer-tification, and advancement of professional standards, including standards for institutions which prepare teachers." The work of this commission has evolved into an organized nationwide movement; all states but one have parallel commissions. commis-sions. This movement holds that teachers are in a strategic position posi-tion to accept and exercise ever greater responsibility for improving im-proving their own professional status. |
