Show Weber District To Continue Merit Pay Study The Weber County School District Dis-trict will continue the Merit Pay Study which the last session of the Utah Legislature failed to renew. The Weber Board of Education Edu-cation in a recent meeting voted unanimously to continue . the teacher merit study program. Teachers who qualified for merit stipends during the first two years of the study will continue con-tinue to receive merit salary payments. Those participating teachers in the study who did not qualify have been given the opportunity to continue in the program. However, because- of insufficient local funds no new applications for participation in the Merit Study Program will be accepted during the current year The Weber Board of Education also adopted a resolution commending com-mending the teachers of the district dis-trict for their support of the Merit Study Program. The teach- ers nave been open-minded and cooperative in their support of the study. They have shown great dedication to the idea of offering quality education to the students of the district. It is impossible after only two years in the Merit Study to see the long range effects of merit payments. This, along with the fact that the merit study has helped to improve teaching makes it undesirable to discontinue discon-tinue the program at this point. It is our hope that after continued con-tinued study we will be able to answer the question posed in the Utah State Merit Study Program. |
