Show Fish-Game Board Completes Census Tallies covering the recently completed census of wintering waterfowl on Utah marshes total 42.716 birds, the department of fish and game said today. The total is less than the 1961 count of 68,307 birds, but higher than that of 1960 when 31,712 hirds wprp tnllipH The counts of both ducks and geese were down this year and are listed at 33,763 and 3,408, respectively. Most significant drop was in pintails where the comparison is 818 to the count of 11,059 last year. Spokesmen noted that weather and water conditions are chiefly responsible for the differences in these annual winter waterfowl water-fowl tallies. The surveys are conducted on the same days in all Pacific Fly- i j way dtaies as a management measure to determine carry-over brood birds from the fall hunts, effects of the recent seasons and supplies necessary information to the setting of future hunts. The full picture covering wintering win-tering waterfowl on the Pacific Flyway is not complete until the tally from each State is summarized sum-marized at a later date. The survey is a cooperative program between state departments depart-ments and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Three planes and 21 personnel of the Utah Fish and Game Department De-partment took part in the recently re-cently concluded survey. |
