Show Educators Have Meeting To Discuss Crucial Issues The fourth annual conference on crucial issues in elementary education, sponsored by the Department De-partment of Education at the University of Utah, will be held on Saturday, in Orson Spencer Hall on the Utah campus. A talk by Dr. Samuel J. McLaughlin, Mc-Laughlin, head of the Department Depart-ment of Education, on "Meeting the Challenges of Today and Tomorrow To-morrow in Elementary Education" Educa-tion" will highlight the morning session. Educators from the forty school districts in the state have been invited, and planning committees commit-tees are now actively engaged in making final preparations for the event. Some 300 teachers will attend. The conference will begin at 9 a.m. Chairman of the planning committee com-mittee is Dr. Odean L. Hess, associate as-sociate professor of elementary education, University of Utah. His committee includes Mrs. Jennie Jen-nie Kearl, director of elementary education, State Department of Education; Allen M. West, executive exec-utive secretary and treasurer of ah Education Association; Miss ia Jensen, elementary super-r, super-r, Jordan School District; Emil Nyman, Department of Education, Westminster College; Miss Edna Cook, president, Elementary Ele-mentary Supervisors' Association, Associa-tion, and elementary supervisor, Davis School District; Vere A. McHenry, principal, Bonnyview Elementary School, Murray District; Dis-trict; A. Leroy Urry, principal, Oquirrh Hills elementary school, Granite District; James O. Morton, elementary supervisor, Salt Lake City District; Dis-trict; Dr. Caroline Dobson, associate as-sociate professor of elementary education, University of Utah; Dr. Marie M. Highes, professor of elementary education, University Univer-sity of Utah; Dr. Edna V. Ambrose, Am-brose, assistant professor of elementary ele-mentary education, University of Utah; Dr. Wanda L. Robertson, professor of elementary education, educa-tion, University of Utah; and Dr. Samuel J. McLaughlin, head of the department of Education, University of Utah. Dr. McLaughlin, former chairman chair-man of the Department of Elementary Ele-mentary Education at New York University, is an internationally known educator who has been active in educational affairs for the past 25 years. |
