Show ORGANIZED BAND OF TIIIErES. Soldiers and Civilians "Combine to Rob the Government. Buffalo, Wyo., July 25. Private Johnson John-son of the Sixth cavalry troops, who was 'found guilty of stealing a number of guns and pistols from the government at the fire at Fort McKinney last April and who was confined in the guard-house, but escaped a few days ago, was recaptured yesterday. A number of other soldiers were iu the-gun theft, and it was they who aided Johnson to escape, fearing fear-ing his giving information on them. Another soldier arrested for complicity in the affair made a confession, from which it appears that there is a regulary organized organ-ized band of soldiers working under the instruction of civilians who were banded together to burn dowu Fort McKinney for the purpose of securing what plunder they could duriug the conflagration; confla-gration; arms and ammunition being the plunder most desired, as there was a general demand for them throughout the country since the invasion of the cattlemen last spring. |
