Section 1. lie it ordained by the city council of Salt Lake City that: The waterworks constructed by the corporation to sunp'y Salt Lake City with water shall be designated and known as the Salt Like City Waterworks : thy shall be the property of said city, and shall be under the sale and exclusive ex-clusive contiol of the city council, who may, from time to time, direct the construction of such reservoirs, reser-voirs, water tanks, water mains, service pipes aud fire hydrants as the neces-ities of the inhabitants of the city may require. Sec. 2. Sec. 7. To each service pipe there shall attached, at-tached, at the curb, a stop-cock and a key-box, which ehall ba paid for by the water taker and be nuder the exculsive control of the Superintendent. All service and other pipes ned under grjuud shall be of cast iron, extra strong lead or tin-lined lead, and laid not less than four feet below be-low the grade, and all pipes for water supply whetherlnside or outside, shall be of sufficient strength to stand the water pressure, and all such work, alteration or extensions thereof, together with size of pipe, must be to the acceptance of the Superintendent. No extension of service pipes shall be made without first obtaining a permit therefor from the Superintendent, and upon the payment of one dollar, and no extension shall be made to another water taker from the same service ser-vice pipe without a stop-cock and key-box being attached at the junction with such service pipe. Sec. 9. If any water taker shall permit any person per-son from otha.- premitiee, or any unauthorized person, to nsj or obtain water from his pr-inisss or water fixtures, whether inside or outside of his building, the supply of water may be cut off and the amount paid forfeited, rnd such unauthorized erson for taking said water shall be Uub'e lo a ine of not to exceed ten dollars for each offence. Sec. 10. All persons taking the w ater shall keep their service pipes connections and other water apparatus in goad repair and protected from frost at their own expense: but no person, except under un-der the direction of the Superintendent, shall be allowed to dig into the str et or sidewalk for the purpose of 1 ying, removing or repairing any service ser-vice pipe. See. 11. If any water taker shall waste water, or allow it to te wasted by negligence, such as imperfect stops or valves, or leaky joints or pipes, or allowing tanks to leak or to overflow, or ! wastefitlly run it through basins or other apparatus, appar-atus, or use the water for purposes other than hose for which they have paid, or in violation of the rules and regulations for controlling the water wa-ter supply, and the provisions of this ordinance, he shall be liable to a fine of not to exceed twenty-five dollars for each offence, and the water wa-ter may be cut off from such water taker, and all payments forfeited, unless such person shall promptly pay snch additional charges as may te imposed by the Supei intend -nt. Sec. 12. If any person after the water has been turned off from his premises, on account of nonpayment non-payment of dues, or violation bt the rules and regulations pertaining to the water supply, shall turn the water on again, or. use, or allow the wafer to be used without authority, he shall be fined not exceeding fifty dolbirs for each offense. Sec 14. Fountains and sprinklers for lawns, gardens, yards or sidewalks shall not be operated during a tire. No fountain attachment shall be greater than half an inch in diameter. Sprinklers for lawns, gardens and yards must be used only for the purposes paid i for. The city is hereby divided int.i two sprinkling districts. All that portion of tee city lyin east and north of the following boundaries is hereby mane nnd deflated to be the Upper Sprinkling District, to-w if. And all persons taking water f'orit the mains on South Temple Street, East of-First East Street, and those taking from the main 011 Sixth East Street, shall be deemed to belong to said Upper District. All that portion of the city lying West and South of the foregoing 1 jundaries is hereby made and declared to be tha Lower Sprinkling District. : Sprinklers for lawns, sidewalks, streets, windows win-dows and fronts, in the Upper District, must he used ouly between the hours of 6 and 9 o'clock a.m., and 4 and 8 o'clock p.m., and in the Lower District between the hours of H and 10 o'cloc k a.m., and 6 and 9 o'clock p.m., during the months of July, August. September and October of each vear. Thirty minute time each day shall be allowed al-lowed for th sprinkling of each 1X1 square jard of lawn in the Upper District, nnd twenty minutes each day for the same area in the Lower District. In time of scarcity of water, whenever it shall, in tbe judgment of the City Council, lie necessary, the Mayor shall, by proclamation, still further limit t e use of water tor other than domestic purposes, aud iu his discretion, provide that sprinklers shall only be used 00 alternate days in each District. Sec. 27. No water shall be supplied from ihe pipes of the Salt Laae City Waterworks for the purpose of driving any motor, turbine or other wheels, or any hydraulic engines or elevators, or for driving or propelling machinery of any kind whatsoever, and no license shall be granted or issued for any such purpose. Sec. 2. 'ihe Assessor and Collector of Water liis may demand of any person, persons or corporation, cor-poration, a sworii statement for what purpose water isieuired, together with the number of rooms, hose connections, bath houses, shop, urinals, urin-als, water closew, engines, boilers, stock yards, corrals, livery stables, liquor stores, and other purposes for which water is required, and aUo the number of horses or other stock to be supplied sup-plied and the number of vehicles ti he washed. Any person refusing to make such sworn stated mentwhen required shall he refused a supply of water, and any person who makes sich worn stameiit fal-ely, may be prosecuted and cin-ricied cin-ricied of perjury. Sec. 29. Nothipg herein contained shall prohibit the City Conncil Irom amending, altering or adding add-ing to the provisions of this ordinance in relation tf, the water supply or the rules and regulations which may be adopt-d in conformity therewith.
