Show WILLIAMS-TURNER FIGHT. CARL SMITH OUT-LINES THE PROSPECTS PROS-PECTS OF MONDAY'S MILL. He Says Williams Will go in at 156 Strong Baskin Takes a H md in the Lyuott-Thompton Lyuott-Thompton Fight Other Sports. Special Dispatch to The Times. San Fraxcisco, July 23. It is no exaggeration exag-geration to say that there is more interest manifested in the match of Jim Williams and Charley Turner than has been the case in any fight, with the possible exception of the Goddard-McAuliffe mill, for some time. It is expected to be a rushing, hard hitting, lively affair, and coming one day before the Dawsou-Nedham contest it really attracts more attention and is more spoken of than the battle between these two nationally known fighters. Williams has been at the short end of the betting lrom the start but that there need be no indication of the outcome. Thoroughly sporty as San Francisco is it is the area test town to play local favorites I ever saw. As an instance, see how Mc-Auliffe, Mc-Auliffe, Hawkins, Billy Murphy and other losers were played at the long end, solely because they were well known. Last night a lot of Salt Lake money was dumped in Corbett's pool room, and the Williams end took an upward tendency, running to seven and a half. Musto,Charley Turner's backer, got nervous, and came down from Stockton yesterday, to see what manner of man Turner was to meet. Stories have been in circulation of the ill condition of Williams, , and Manager Harrison Har-rison of the Pacific club, before which the fight wi 1 take place, today went out to his quarters at the Six-mile house to satisfy himself. He returned with the assurance that Williams is all right, and attributes the talk t6 an effort to get two to one betting. Wilson, AVilliams' manager, also says his man will go in at 156 strong. By the way, it would seem that a hoodoo rests ovef . the place where Williams is J training, for Mc-Auliffc and Daly trained there for their defeats sustained in the past month. The Salt Laker says he will put the hoodoo to rout, and those who do not permit local prejudice to influence them have an idea tbat he will. He will be attended at the" ringside by "Martin Murphy, one of the shrewdest handlers hand-lers of a pugilist the coast holds. Hack-meier's Hack-meier's hotel Is full of Salt Lake people, and they are full of enthusiasm for their townsman. towns-man. ; t Carl Smith. , GUN CLUB SHOOT. Anderson Leads With Tw.nty-Elgh t Out of a Possible Thirty. The regular weekly shoot of the Salt Lake Gun club took place yesterday at the Gun club grounds on State road, south of the city. The men shot at 20 singles and 10 doubles, and Andersou, the holder of the medal, made the phenomenal score of 28 out of a possible 30, which is a matter entitling him to great congratulation. The score stood as follows: Anderson, 23; Sharp, Sr., 27; Brown, 26; Mav, 20; Lynch, 25; Sharp, Jr., 23; Chester, 23; Broekbank, 23; Tre-mayne, Tre-mayne, 22; Tiliman, 24; Little, 20; Uhrland, 20; Aiken, 23. Next Friday Mr. Anderson will shoot with McDermoody of Ogden for the championship champion-ship of Utah, and there will also be twenty prizes donated by the leading merchants for hitrb, low and average scores made by the Salt Lake and Oirdeu nun club. Several sportsmen from Ouray and Provo will be in attendance. Will G3 to Ogden. The proposed mill between Bob Thompson and Lynott will not come off at least not in Salt Lake. The men arranged to give a scientific sparring contest with soft gloves for points, such as the law permits, and made application applica-tion for a license. The application was returned re-turned yesterday with the indorsement. "Disapproved, K. N. Kiskin, Mayor." What reason the mayor had for his action is known only to himself. The exhibition which these men intended to give would certainly have been no violation of law, aud there are many people interested in athletics who wanted to witness iL The contest will probably take place at Ogdeu, as both men expressed their willingness willing-ness to go to the Junction City. The Big Fight. Several Salt Lakers left for San Francisco last night to witness the Williams-Turner fight, which comes off on Monday night. They all jro prepared to bet a little money on their townsman, and the Chronicle says they will be able to get 10 to 6 on the night of the fight, as Williams money is hard to find. The arrangements for the fight have been completed, and one of the preliminary bouts will be between Frank Childs and an unknown colored middleweight. Pools on the Williauis-Turner Fight. Pools will be sold on the Williams-Turner fight on Saturday and Monday nights at 8:30 sharp, at the Congrp&s saloon, 16 East Second Sec-ond South. Donaldson & McConnell. Sporting Splinters. The proposed fisrht between Dixou and Murphy is off because the California club Would not put up a suitable purse. The California club has lost the Castello-Greggains Castello-Greggains fight, the men having agreed to ficht before the Pacific club for a purse of $2500. At the races Monday there will be a 2:35 trot, in which Andy Burt's Lady Pomp, J' A. Glenfield's Bird's Eye, J. M. Nelson's Commodore, D. Morrison's Phil Shandon and C. E.
