The Board of Education met in regular eession Mayor Bas'niu in the chair. The board having anticipated the requirement require-ment of the school children of the first district dis-trict aud already taken steps to plate a building there the petition of the people there was on motion of Col. The committee on sites was authorized to purchase ground from C. 0. Whim-more I SlO.'aOU. " Irustee Young did not recognize the name of Sheridan as a symbol of learning, and the recommendations were referred back. The report of the committee on the Hooper site in the ThirJ precinct L3,500 was adopted and it wili be purchased. The following teachers were temporarily employed: Laura Simons, Industrial Home school, at a salary of $60 per month; .Mrs. j Kenworthy, Seventh school, at $65; Mrs. A. j F. Howe, Filth school, at soil; Mrs. Wilson, j Twenty-first school, at Sou; Miss Ada Patter- j son, E eventh school, at $65. The following ruies for the refunding of illegally collected school taxes were adopted: First The board of education will refund only such money as it received, and will refund re-fund that in full without rebate or discount. Second The payment shall be made according ac-cording to and precisely following the list furnished this board by Collector Hardy. Third A form of check and stub wiili receipt. re-ceipt. Fourth Two rubber stamps shall be procured pro-cured by tiie clerk, one to stamp on the face of the tax-receipt presented the words: "Special school tax of 1".H), refunded by hoard of education." Fifth The clerk of the board shall keep the stub of the cheek-book and tile the same as his vouchers. . The treasurer of the board shall retain as his vouchers the endorsed cheeks as they are paid. Appropriations were made in the sum of $12,173.30. Harry Ward w as employed as deputy clerk of the board at a salary of $36 per month. An order was made direc ting the clerk to ask fifteen copies of the session laws for use of members. The discussion of matters relating to ventilation ven-tilation was deferred for a week aud the board adjourned until Thursday next. |
