The result of the balloting for directors at the Union Pacific stockholders meeting was announced last night as follows: Fredrick L. Ames, Edwin F. Arkins, Samuel Carr, Henry H. Cook, F. Gordon Dexter, Sidney Dillon, Grandville M. Dodge, Marvin Hughitt, Henry B. Hyde, Joseph Millard, Alexander E. Orr, James Sharp, Gardiner M. Lane, Jay Gould and Russell Sage. S. H. H. Clark of Omaha, general manager of the Union Pacific, was on the directors' ticket, but was defeated by Gardiner M. Lane from the opposition ticket, but will probably be placed on the board by the other directors, and may possibly be elected president. Two other directors besides Lane on the opposition ticket, were Charles J. Jackson of Boston and Marcus A. Hann'a of Cleveland, who were defeated. The foreign ticket appears to have been defeated by 10,000 votes. The election was decided in favor of Gould by the proxy of Carthwick, Work & Co of London for about 20,000 shares. This house has given its proxy to Boissevain, but latter to I. Jc C. Wormser, their New York correspondents, which it is said, they requested should not be made in favor Gould. The Wbrmsers, however, turned their votes over to Gould thus turning the election, and retaining the Missiouri Pacific officials in the management of the Union Pacific. At the directors' meeting subsequently, Samuel R. Carr resigted director and S. H. H. Clark of Omaha was chosen to fill vacancy. Sidney Dillon declined re-election to the presidency and Mr. Clark was elected in his place, Mr. Dillon beintr elected chairman chair-man of the board, a position created for him. Edwin F. Arkins was made vice-president, to succeed Mr. Clark, aud the latter made a member of the executive committee, com-mittee, in place of Russell Sage. Comptroller Comp-troller Oliver W. Mink, Treasurer James G. Harris aud all the other officer were reelected. re-elected. - a |
