Show GAVE TACOMA THE GO BY. The Mohican Goes to Ksquiinault for Ke pairs and Toco in a Protest. Washington, April 12 The navy dapart-ment dapart-ment is informed that the United States ship Mohican has gone to Esquimault, B. C, to b docked in the British navy yards for necessary nec-essary repairs, occ.-tssioned by running on a rock and losing about ten feet of her false keel. The secretary of the navy received a telegraph tele-graph from o Tacoma merchant protesting against the Mohican's going to the English dry dock, when she might have 1 cen repaired re-paired u-t as well at Tacoma. The secretary says he was not aware that the Tacoma dry dock was finished or capable capa-ble of receiving a vessel of the size of the Mohican, and as the Mohican is en route to Bering sea, it was easier to have her repaired at Esquimault than to bring her back to Sau Francisco. |
