A Creede correspondent of a morning paper says that "Billy" McAhan, who was recently murdered at that place was the last of live brothers who had all been killed. Mr. Tyler W. McAhan of State street, the father of the murdered man says this is false that "Billy" never had but two brothers and that they are both still alive. The statement that he had telegraphed that he was too poor to take care of his sons remaines Mr. McAhan also denies. On the contrary his daughter leaves this even-ing for Creede where she will be met bv one of her brothers and the remains of poor "Billy" Mc Ahan will be sent to the old home in Kuntucky where they will be laid at rest in the family vault. A private letter received in the city today prove conclusively that the killing of Mc- Ahan was an unprovoked murder. It is also alleged in the letter that Light the slayer guard the door of tjie room where the in-quest was held and would let no witness be examined who might give evidenee damag-ing to his side of the affair. The Preachers and President Kliot. The following resolution was adopted by the Ministers' association of this city : Resolved, That as a Ministers' association representing the various Protestant denomi-nations of this city, we hereby express our great regret at the perversion of historic-fact- s and the misapplication of American principles which characterized the address of President Eliot of Harvard university at the Tabernacle on Wednesday evcninL', March 16, as calculated to give the people of Utah a false impression of New England and American ideas o& civil and religious liberty. EDWARD B. WICKS. Trustee. Dated Salt Lake Citv, March 24 1 ll 18SS2. . AT THE TAB. THIS MORNING Apostle Merrill Declares tliat Iiriglia.m, Young, John Taylor and the Rest of the Saints Will be Hero Tomorrow. The exercises at the Tabernacle this morn-ing were without incident. George Q. Can-non read the report of a committee appointed to investigate the matter of the founding of j a church university. The report was favor- - able and Salt Lake was suggested as the site. This report was unanimously adopted by the conference. Apostle F. M. Lyman followed with a in which he said: "In spite of the bad weather the saints have gtitii- - ered iu great numbers to do honor to ' the glory of God, that revelations was the foundation upon which the church stood, and that the word hardly ever comes that it don't And them unprepared. These revela-- Hons have generally been trials to most peo-ple, but not to all. We are careless of our tithings. I suppose there is a reason for this, apd the failing of prayers, but I won-der what the excuse can be. "We are in-creasing in numbers, in farms, etc., and the tithings should be a little better each year. The young men who are springing up to manhobd should add to it each year. Some of the brethren have expressed fears in regard to the church. While there is a division on political lines, it should make no difference in our feelings toward each other. If you allow bitterness to enter you are narrow. Why should we not be frteiidiy with each other '4 A great many people have I left the church on different grounds, but I say we are today the tried and truthful peo-ple." Apostle John Henry Smith then arose anil stated that he had been requested to state that there was a movement on foot to erect a monument to that hero of the church and of this western country. President Brigham Young, and that voluntary contributions would be asked md that the conference would start the good work. Apostle M. V. Merrill said that eix or seven million dollars had been expended in the last twenty-si- x years ly the church in erecting buildings to the Lord, and they hadn't got through with the work yet; "There, is a great work here to finish the Temple. All Saints are anxious that Presi-dent Woodruff should dedicate the Temple. President Young will be there; President Taylor will be there; President Kimball will be there. Do you suppose beeaase they have passed over the River Jordan that they have lest interest in this matter": Not a bit of it, my brethren, they will be here. We have come together at this conference to have our minds refreshed and to bring up before our minds the life of the holy priesthood; and we go home with re-newed life and to live a better life. Apostle A. H. Lund fol owed. His re-marks were in the same strain as those oi the preceding speakers. Tomorrow will be the big day of the con-- ' ferenct-,- ' when the can stone will be placed on the middle spire of the temple. , m - - - Mtu-shaP- s S iie.
