Mis name is ticorgc Athey, and he Is known by nliases too numerous to mention. The crime for which he is to serve sentence is thai of horse stealing. In September. he stole a hi- cycle from Creed Niles in this city, and was apprehended at Ouray, lie was brought back and no case was made against him. As soon as he was out of the toils In Hint case, he went to the liven liv-en stable of Knight and llotchkiss and hired 11 horse to ride out in the country. He stayed longer than necessary, and a" search was Instituted, which revealed his character. Immediately the sheriff of the county, accompanied ac-companied by one of the owners of the horse started after the runaway, captured him near Kico, where he was lodged in ia.il until next day. During the night he broke jail, stole the same horse out of the livery stable, cut off bis inane and tail, and made a break for liberty. He almost succeeded, and but for the vigilance of the men who went after him would have escaped. He was caught and again lodged in jail, hut this time guarded. He was brought to Montrose and placed in solitary confinement and closely watched. The only time he was allowed out of his cage was w hen taken to his meals, nt which lime he was handcuffed and shack led.
