Show A SLEIGHING ACCIDENT. Eight of a Merry Party Now Lie Cold In Death. St. Lotus, Jan. 20. A little before 8 o'clock last evening a parly of twenty-five started out for an evening's enjoyment. Kight of them now lie in tho morgue while nearly all tho others are in tho hospital. The party was made up of members of the Clover Leaf club, a social organization of white waiters. They wero all in one conveyance, con-veyance, a large four-horse sleigh. They went to a road house near Forest park, and after taking a luncheon started to return home. About 10:30 at the Sarah street crossing of the Wabash railroad the accident occurred. A special train coming in from Ferguson, Fergu-son, running at a high rate of speed, struck the sleigh, killing two of the horses and throwing the people in every direction. So great was the shock two of the injured afterward were found on the top of the call. The. train was stopped within three hundred yards of the crossing and returned re-turned to the scene where the excursionists aided iu gathering up tho dead and wounded. woun-ded. By this time the mounted police were on hand and tuking charge, they ordered the dead an wounded placed on the train. This was done and all were taken to the Union depot whence the woundl were taken to St. Mary's infirmary and the dead to tho morgue, flic dead number eight, only the of whom have been identitled. Theso are Frederick Ncubert, Gus Ncubert, Will Greene, J. Schaefer, E. von Behreu, Andrew Stevenson, a colored driver of team is miss, lug. It is hclloved at least four of the wounded will die. |
