A snow slide Saturday night caused a dis-astrous wreck on the I'niou Pacific railway at nearly 19 p. m. It was in Echo canon that freight train No. 33, west bound, ran into the obstruction named which caused the death of Engineer Wright ami injury to Fireman Reeso and Brakeman Bay, the two last named having been bruised and scalded. The accident was one of those that human foresight could not provide against. A blinding snow storm prevailed through which it was Impossible for the faithful yvatchers on the locomotive to penetrate for more than a fow feet. The slide bad nearly liiled the canon, and the snow was packed so solidly that the cheek could have been scarcly more sudden and complete had the. train encountered the obstruction of one of the mountain walls on either side. There is a strong downward grade in that locality for west bound trains. There were twenty. five ears in the train, a large number of which were completely wrecked. In the caboose were Conductor Richardson, a Herald cor-respondent and two others who escaped withont injury. An act of herjoism was performed by one of the latter whose, name Is yet unknown, who walked in the terrible storm to Uintah five miles distant where a "helper" in the form of a locomotive was secured which speedily came to the scene of diseslor. It is as yet impossible, to approximate the loss to the railway company in the matter of wreckage of engine, cars and freight but this is u matter of insignificance compared with the loss of life of one man and the in-jury of two others. The engineer who lost his life was Homer Wright, 85 years of age. who leaves wife and two children residing at Evanston, to Which place the remains were removed. The fireman and brakeman were not seri-ously injured. Trustee's Sule.
