Show Down to Their Death. IIfi.exa, Dec. 1. At 8 o'clock Saturday morning the w est spau of the Great Northern North-ern bridge over the northern fork of the Columbia river, six miles from the Columbia falls, fell, carrying with it nine men, three of whom are dead. Three of those who escaped es-caped death are thought to be fataily wounded. The dead are Hugh Frentey, John Pooley and Patrick Lane. The three who will probaby die are Leonard Heuen-$rer, Heuen-$rer, Neil Stewart and Martin Whalen. Peter McAnally is also w ounded so that recovery is impossible. Four immense guy rods fell from the top and struck a support of the false work, causing it to ivu w ay. All of the framing work was nearlv completed, aud only the last spar was to be bolted. The spar was sixty feet long, and the men fell in au awful crash of timbers and iron a dis-i dis-i tanre of thirty-four feet, two of them beiug pinned down uuder several feet of water. |
