Show The Catholic Congress. St. Louis, Dec. 5. The report of the committee having in charge the proposed work of the Catholic conirress of lb'.': provides pro-vides that the congress shail consist of ten general delegates from every diocese and additional delegates iu the proportion of live to every twenty-live thousand of Catholic Catho-lic population, these delegates to be appointed ap-pointed by the bishop of the diocese. Each Catholic university, college and seminary is entitled to delegates, and the committee have the right to invite distinguished laymen. lay-men. The main feature of the conirress will be the social and economic questions embodied em-bodied iu the recent encyclical of the pope, the questions to be considered being: Hie rights of labor and the duties of capital; pauperism and its remedy: public and private pri-vate charity; beneficial workinrmen's societies socie-ties and for young men; life insurance and pension funds for workingmcn; trade combinations com-binations and strikes; colonization; the evils of drink and the importance of minimizing the plague. : |
