Martin Flavin, the Mc-Cartbyite Mc-Cartbyite candidate for the seat in parliament parlia-ment for Cork city, left vacant by the death of Charles Stewart Parnell, has been elected by a plurality of 15,121 votes over the Par-neliiic Par-neliiic candidate, John E. Redmond. An enormous crowd of excited people surrounded sur-rounded the hall while, the votes were being counted and the police had all they could do to keep order. It was noticeable in many altercations between be-tween the priests and the Parnellites that the women in most cases sided with the priests. William O'Brien received an ovation ova-tion from the women, who presented him with flowers and even divested themselves of their shawls for him to walk upon. |
