WEBBEE,ms: There are very fa-- Utah pioneers who are not familiar with the namex)f that popular favorite. Colonel Ed. Kelly. The Colonel has a host of friends and admirers, and while he may not hav lired here so long as those grand old pioneers who made the wonderful overland excursion to this Territory in '47, he has taken time by the fore lock as it were and improved each shining hour so that through earnest and persistent efforts on his own pari he ha3 made the acquaintance of almost the ENTIRE COMMUNITY! VTho know him in no other light than nan of fair and honorable business methods, and one who is always on "the alert for some amusement or en tertainment for his friends. We may add that Mr. Kelley has recently con-solidated his interests with those ot Mr. Charles Reilloy, Who, as an artistic dispensor of spartE. ling beverages and a jolly good fel-low, is too well known to the Salt Lake fraternity to need an introduc-tion through the medium of thesv columns. i i A Fine Line Wines and Liquors FOR THE . Kelley as regards the management of a first-clas- s and highly respectable sample room. The New Gymnasium run in connee--' - tion with "Tbe Elks Sample Room" opposite the Theater is quite a prom-- 1 . inent feature, and deserves the most J liberal patronage of the public : . "v J. CP?. THEATER S 225 STATE STREET! 9 w WEST SIDE-WISPS- . A mass meeting, the object of which is to further the interests of the West Siders has been ordered for Monday eTfninr,November ltjth, at the chamber "of commerce. The Wt-.- Side association, under whouc direc-tion the meeting is to be held, is making ar-rangements for an event of more than ordi-nary interest. The indications are that there will be a large attendance of those who are in favor of developing tha manufac-turing interests of the city. A number of prominent public speakers will make ad-dresses, and the practical uses to which West Side land can be put will be set forth, and efforts made to more thoroughly de-velop that poriion of the city. The occasion trill also be enlivened hy a band of music. The canning interests of the city are afraiu being agitated, and the West Side as-sociation is taking steps to promote this most Important industry. During the past wof--k a number of eastern business men railed at the office of the associa-tion and expressed themselves very freely on this subject; in fact, urging our business men to take such action as may result in the building of a large fac-tory and control this rapidly growing indus-try. It is proposed to erect somewhere on thti West Side a factory having capacity suf-ficiently larre to enable it to compete with eastern houses. and open up an industry that 'w ill give employment to many people. The West Side association has secured the services of II. A. Terpeuning, a gentleman well known in business circles, who has as-sumed charge of the collection department of the association, and who will talk up the Importance of maintaining the association and continuing the work it is so actively in. From all accounts the association lias done and is doing excellent service for the business interests of the city, and it has Already assumed a very important position in eastern cities, where judicious manage- ment has placed it in contact with the clashes of people it strives to reach. : The West Side association was visited th's j week by a Council Blulls business man who is in the west looking up investments. He is also examining Salt Lake's inducements as a manufacturing center. A quantity of advertising matter descriptive of Salt Lake liad been sent him. He thinks well of the outlook, and shirt he would write l i lirm to come and examine the situation more closely. Steps arc being taken by a number of West Side citizens for organizing a building ftnd loan association. At the oliice of the West Side association it was stated that the matter had been agitated for some time, aad it is thought that within a few days a com-pany will be organized and incorporated and assistance given all who contemplate erect-ing homes in that portion of the city. Secrctrry Jones of the West Side associa-tion, has an application from a Kansas City firm who think of coming to Salt Lake and embark in drugmanufacturing. They want to know what the prospects are, and say they will visit the city in a few days. There were visitors at the. offices of the West Side association this week from resi-dents of Indianapolis, Buffalo, Omaha, Kan-sas City and Vincennes, Ind. A number of the cottages erected at Brighton for the American Investment com-pany were disposed of this week to purchas- ers on the installment plan. The West, Side association is endeavoring to interest a number of prominent land owners over the river to start a starch works. Brighton people are making preparations for the holding of a series of sociables this winter. W. J. Bngan a well known West Side busi-Eef-- s man, is making a trip through Colo-rado. A rink i?"to be one of the winter attractions in Brighton. A large rrray fox was captured near El .. Dorado on Thrsday. Marflial'e Sale.
