Salt -Work Flooded Out. Tl'scov, Ariz., June 30. A . special from Yuma says the Colorado desert basin at Salton, sixty miles west of 1 unia, is rapidly filling up with fresh water from a subterranean passage pas-sage believed to be connected with the Colorado river. At last advices the desert had been converted into an immense lake, and if the water continues con-tinues to raise Uie Southern Pacific tracks will be submerged for a distance of one hundred miles, and the Salton salt works will be compelled to close up. The temperature there is very high, ths the thermometer registering 145 degrees. |
